Welcome to /r/woahdude! Please take note of a few things:

  • We are NOT a "reaction subreddit".

  • We are NOT a subreddit about content that is merely interesting or amazing.

  • We are NOT interchangeable with /r/pics, /r/gifs, /r/damnthatsinteresting or other general subreddits.

  • We are specifically made for psychedelic content as we define it here. Our definition of trippy is far more expansive than the obvious fractals and tie-dye concept, but there's a lot we exclude as well.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I feel like having this thing in my house would creep me out. Not always, just in those moments where you've watched/read something creepy, you've thought too much about it, you're now in hyperaware uncomfortable mode, and then you have to walk past this fucking thing to get a glass of water.

Trustnodrug

Cube zero was better in my opinion, I watched cube zero before Cube so maybe I’m just biased, either way it is a truly terrifying movie, I wouldn’t last very long in a situation like that.

mxlblood
3

I read a bunch of amazing reviews about it a few random places online so I checked it out but decided to turn it off a few minutes again due to the acting. Am I missing something? Should I try again?

roarkish
8

Definitely try again.

I think the acting isn't better or worse compared to other horror films of the same era. They did a decent job of selling it being "no-name" actors.

It reminds me of the acting in Event Horizon, Laurence Fishburn was by far the best in that movie compared to the others. It's the same in this movie, you'll see what I mean if you watch it again.

The horror is more psychological than action-oriented, so even if you dislike the acting, the story and situation is enough to make it worth a watch.

The discovery of what's happening and the ending had me say "Whaaaat?" out loud.

sandstorm9991

C0LT0GRAPHY

Most likely cob led strips. They give this kind of affect

hotdogs4humanity

Ah yea that looks like it. They have a much more consistent lighting effect than the traditional strips do, and in a very small footprint.

Drift_Kar

CCFL's

ThePendulum
5

I am building a small rainbow cube variant of this, but I'm stuck trying to figure out how to wire the corners without a gap in the light, that still allows the cube to be (dis)assembled. In particular because with RGB LEDs, I need a data line going from one strip to the next. A hollow frame would help with that, but would make it more difficult to mount the windows.

Mavoryx

Why do infinity mirrors look green?

the green tint is caused by iron impurities in the glass as a result of the manufacturing process ... so over multiple reflections, the light gets greener and greener.

Thought this would interest some. The reason the colour is green-ish is because mirrors reflect green light more than other wavelengths, so when lots of mirrors reflect each other a green tinge forms.

dhessi
2

A half-silvered mirror aka one-way mirror aka two-way mirror (yes, they're all names for the same thing) let's through 50% of the light and reflects back 50% of the light (or possibly a different ratio). If you looked through it in a normal setting, it would look like a super glossy window. But if the half-silvered mirror is placed between a really bright room and a really dark room, then it looks like a window from the dark room and a mirror from the bright room.

For infinity mirrors, a bright light is placed between a half-silvered mirror and a normal mirror. How well the illusion works depends on how bright the light is and how dark the room is. Without the light, the illusion would be muddied by your own reflection.

There are three of these in North Park Mall in Dallas, except they’re overhead so it looks like you’re looking up into forever. They’re very cool and there’s always someone stopped under them. For anyone who’s never been there, I know a mall is a weird place to send a tourist, but there are lots more art installations besides these and I’d definitely recommend checking it out!

WilliamTellAll

My local art gallery had a whole room the size of an apartment that was all mirrors. The walls the ceiling and even the floor. It was jarring and yet magnificent.

NookNookNook
2

I love the infinity mirror universe. My first time seeing it was a shop where the walls were giant mirrors. My dad was waiting on a watch repair and I spent 30 minutes just playing with my reflection completely captivated by this mirror trick. This is really neat because it just loops on itself without input. If there were only some way to create a light show like a hologram in the middle... ...dude. Hell maybe even just some of those snipped fiber optic cables with a pulsing color shift.

HeatSpark174
2

There's an artist called Yayoi Kusama who does a few infinity installations like this one, they're pretty cool. https://thecoolhunter.net/yayoi-kusamas-two-fascinating-mirror-room-installations/

ShamanicBuddha
2

Is there any correlation between this shifting of the light, from red to blue, to the color shift we witness when observing the universe, and if so why is it different from how we see things further away in our images of the universe, going from blue to red the further away?
