"I am really at a point where we are getting close to having the cabinet and other things that I want," Trump said.
He got to pick the cabinet in the first place.
He's testing everyone's loyalty. He wants to surround himself with people that agree with him on everything; a cabinet of Yes men.
And then we can finally invade Finland in winter.
But he did that from the get-go. The problem is, agreeing with him on something today doesn't necessarily mean you agree with him tomorrow. He changes his mind and contradicts himself so much that his cabinet is going to be a revolving door based on his whims of the moment.
He wants to be CEO of the United States, not President.
Good old GOP personal responsibility.
...probably Hillary's fault, her and the (((deep state))) keep making him look so incompetent. Clearly, no fault of Trump's....
20% of all articles on r/conservative have her name in the title. they are desperate over there. They also focus a lot on hs kiddies. It's creepy.
I know that the president gets to nominate his cabinet, but am I remembering right that a bunch of them were part of the RNC compromise, like the SCOTUS nominee list?
Probably because our dumbass in chief and his band of merry fuck wads didn't even know the prior admin wasn't just gonna stick around and the GOP had to step in and give them a list of people to nominate. As for SCOtUS we all know thats the only thing rank and file republicans care about
What the actual hell is happening
You of all people should know.
Ah Yes! He real putin, not me. I American comrad
The country is turning into a Curb Your Enthusiasm/Game of Thrones crossover.
At least Joffrey had a competent staff backing him up.
The sort of thing you think about before voting.
I knew Trump was bad before but he keeps breaking records for how terrible he can get weekly.
With the grass is greener on the other side mentality I’m not surprised a Republican won after two terms with a Democrat. It’s been something like 50-60 years since Democrats had 3 consecutive terms.
It will be interesting after these next set of elections as he’s likely to lose congress backing him up blindly.
Tillerson dared to criticize Russia. Few hours later he gets fired by Trump. Not really that hard to connect the dots.
And Fox is carrying the fake narrative the firing really happened days ago ...
And Trumps base will eat it up like apple pie.
Pompeo is a lapdog himself. So, no worries. Things in the Trump administration will remain Trumptastic.
Tillerson had told reporters the attack on Sergei and Yulia Skripal “clearly came from Russia”.
Go against Putin and Trump gives you your walking papers.
Does anyone know if previous presidents had any comparable turnover for their cabinet members? Seems like someone is constantly being fired or quitting.
He's over double the rate of second place.
From what I can recall, this is starting to be pretty unheard of.
There are Presidents who have had considerable problems with their Cabinets before, starting with John Adams, and of course many Vice Presidents who inherited the Cabinets of the previous President when they became President due to their predecessor's death/resignations. But these problems did not actually cause a ton of turnover, merely headaches for the incumbent President.
Of course, it should also be noted that only in the last maybe 50-60 years have we had as many Cabinet-level departments as we do today, let alone all of the other high level executive positions like CIA Director.
Trump isn't the first President to not entirely get along with this own party when in office, but he will probably be the most dramatic.
So the big question we should be focusing on now is who Trump has lined up to be the new Director of the CIA.
EDIT: so it will be Gina Haspel:
As a clandestine officer at the Central Intelligence Agency in 2002, Gina Haspel oversaw the torture of two terrorism suspects and later took part in an order to destroy videotapes documenting their brutal interrogations at a secret prison in Thailand. 1
If you wanted someone to lead the CIA that had no ethics and no qualms about engaging in a coverup, Gina Haspel looks to be a good choice.
He already announced Gina Haspel. I wonder if the Senate will grow balls and not confirm someone who violated human rights with torture though.
99% sure they will confirm her. The really crazy thing is that Obama had an opportunity to bring people like Haspel to account. She could have served prison time. But Obama chose to "look forward, not backward." And now she is to be Director of CIA. Gina Haspel directly oversaw and participated in torturing detainees in Thailand:
One of the men, known as Abu Zubayda, was waterboarded 83 times in one month and was slammed into walls by the head. He was deprived of sleep and kept in a coffin-like box. Interrogators later decided he didn’t have any useful information. s
I don't know who she is but she's got to be better than Tom Cotton. Cotton was the one being floated months ago when talk of Tillerson leaving was first mentioned.
EDIT: *sigh I spoke too soon, it looks like ole Gina has a penchant for torture...
If you wanted someone to lead the CIA that had no ethics and no qualms about engaging in a coverup
Isn't that what the CIA routinely does?
"The best people"
While that's a good point, engaging in cover ups is kinda their job.
I'm pretty sure the CIA has always been and always will be doing stuff like this, likely with every director complicit.
Infact is there even a documented case of a world power's intelligence agency being verifiably ethical? Or, hell, I'd even settle for lawful.
I just kinda feel like the nature of espionage makes you jump into the abyss yelling YOLO while the other guys are hung up on looking at monsters or something.
CNN is stating that a State Department official maintains Tillerson learned of firing via a tweet.
That is par for the course..
He says he doesn't quite understand why he was fired too. This is either weird or irresponsible on Trump's part. Or both.
This is either weird or irresponsible on Trump's part.
As are most of his decisions
That official has been fired now.
Hilarious how quickly TD turned on Tillerson this morning and saying things like:
"Good, he was shit anyways."
"Wow, didn't see that one coming.."
Lol Reddit was already predicting this yesterday when Sexy Rexy called out Russia.
Oh, and one of the top posts right now is a random meme making fun of the UK for being a part of the EU. Made by a brand new foreign Redditor. A day after the UK goes after Russia for poisoning people in their country and begins to put together its own Magnitsky Act. Just a coincidence, I'm sure.
That's got to do with Lauren Southern being banned from the country and has nothing to do with the assassination
I'm honestly surprised he wasn't fired a while ago, after the whole "Trump is a fucking moron" deal.
That's because he was made to do a presser where he praised how smart Trump is.
Unfortunately that is exactly like the real life behavior of die hard Trump supporters. He's the golden boy, admitting any flaw or wrongdoing by him would be a condemnation of their own judgment. Most people won't do that, especially the ill-informed or critical-thought-impaired kind of people that typically represent the most ardent supporter.
Their barking orders come from Russia, just like Trump's.
Putin says cry, T_D asks how hard while Trump waves pompoms for em.
He questioned Russia ONE time and he gets fired. Trump must really be terrified about what Russia has on him.
More than once. He said several times last week that Russia was definitely involved in election meddling. It is starting to look like the time line is that he was asked to resign on Friday, refused to do so but did cut his Africa trip short, said those comments about the assassination in the UK, and was then fired early this week.
So if you’re not a Russia supporter, you’re out. That means our entire government is run by Russia supporters. This is no fucking joke. How are old people who lived through the Cold War not shitting themselves about this?
My dad is a professor, and he told me stories about how he had to hide books by certain authors who were supposedly communist or Marxist. Guys like Tolstoy or Dostoevsky. If he had guests over who saw the books on his bookshelf, they might report him and get him fired. He had a locked trunk with books he thought were risky. He used to go dumpster diving outside libraries because they were dumping these books.
I’m not saying we should go back to McCarthyism, I’m just saying there’s a generation of people who were bred with the fear of Russia, who are now eerily silent on this issue.
This is what's telling. Trump is a famously irreverent, boorish man. He shows respect to nothing and no one...except Russia. Not once during his campaign did he ever criticize Russia.
The ONLY part of his "platform" that had any sort of details was about russia and Ukraine. Everything else was totally vague and unfulfilled, like his secret plans for ISIS and healthcare, the wall that mexico would pay for, bringing back coal jobs, etc.
But soon after junior's meeting with russians that they all lied about, donnie suddenly has a specific plan to stop giving Ukraine weapons to defend against Putin's invasion and murders. Not only does he never criticize russia, but Putin is one of the only leaders he says nice things about, and never says any insults about.
Even without the republican coverup, the massive number of lies about ties to russia, the refusal to enforce sanctions, it's obvious that Donnie is owned by Putin.
Yea the ex director of the CIA would totally be safer for trump and Russia then the ex Exxon CEO. /s
The most incompetent administration in modern history. What a failure.
Even so.... I’ve yet to see any personal acquaintances shift their position on Trump. They’ve drunk the kool-aid and are in for the long haul.
They have talking points of his successes. It’s mind blowing.
Try speaking rationally to them, it only hardens their resolve.
No shit, I actually am worried for the first time in my life that we are really in danger in our own country, what could Trump supporters possibly see in him that they have thrown away all decency and ability to rationally think? It's scary, it's cult like, this needs to be resolved, now and quickly. I love that Mueller is thorough, but seriously, he needs to drop something big soon.
Without a doubt, it was at a 43% turnover rate when Cohen bowed out. Either Trump has no ability to hire competent staff, or he hires competent staff but is too incompetent to listen to them. Probably a combination of the two.
His hiring/firing process is a test of loyalty. You're either 100% with him, or your out. Apparently having a different opinion than him is grounds for dismissal. He's just surrounding himself with Yes men - explains why his entire family are his advisers.
Speaking of which... John Kelly will be the next out.
Vote in a clown, expect a circus...
The article title was changed by the site itself. This was the original title.
The mods will still use it as an excuse to lock the thread.
What the hell mods
Edit: aaaaaaaaaaaaand it's gone from worldnews? Apparently its "US Internal Politics" despite being literally the most foreign-facing US government job, but the House Republicans shutting down their Russia probe is still up, as is "Trump’s personal assistant escorted from White House"
Edit: aaaaaaaaand it's back up on worldnews! Wew
Donald Trump is guy who restarts his Madden Franchise every time he gets on.
Except he has 5 kickers, no quarterback, and his cat walked on the controller picking a cockatiel and a golf cart while he was in the bathroom.
There's nothing in the rulebook that says a cockatiel can't be secretary of State.
The US cabinet has had more turnover, both in raw numbers and percentage-wise, than my actual place of business, and I feel like we’re struggling to keep up with our tasks. How on Earth does anyone expect this administration to be efficient and functional?
They don't. That's half the point of Putin's attack: to cripple the US. (The other half, of course, is to get the sanctions lifted.)
I'm not going to bother linking to Dugin again, but it's a bit more than just that. More like shatter the trans-Atlantic alliance in general and foster over separatist group in the US and Europe which seems to be going swimmingly.
If you have listened to republican rhetoric for the last 9 years they have been screaming how the government is completely ineffective and have done everything to make it ineffective.
This administration is the Republican wet dream.
Dismantle the Federal government slowly by refusing to use it. Appoint someone who is a climate change denier to the EPA, appoint someone who wants to tear apart the public school system to the DOEd, appoint someone who wants to sell off our natural resources for oil/natural gas to the Interior Dept, etc. Demoralize and demote government employees (FBI, CIA).
Meanwhile, beef up the Dept of Defense, the Justice Dept (but not to go after bankers, inside traders etc) to go after Pot smokers.
Last Thursday, Tillerson said it would be premature for Trump to hold talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Later that evening, Trump said he would meet Kim by May to discuss the future of North Korea's nuclear weapons program.
Last year, Tillerson said the United States should talk with North Korea, which Trump quickly shot down.
"What did he say? OK, I want the other thing."
There's a big difference between other diplomats representing North Korea and the US having talks and their highest-level leaders having talks. Regular diplomats need to do the legwork, usually over years, if not decades, to sort out the minutiae of the agreements, and need the cushion of, "I need to refer this to my superiors." Presidents have neither that low-level detailed information nor that cushion. That's part of the mistake Woodrow Wilson made when going to the Paris Peace Talks
I assume the fact that Tillerson said Russia was responsible for the poisoning of Sergei Skripal didn't go over too well with Putin.
Another one bites the dust
Another of the best. He hires the best people after all.
Tillerson was extremely qualified though
Why was the other top post on this deleted?
Oh my god FBI. Hurry the fuck up and get this cheeto out of office. I can not wait until 2021.
The front page had 2 top posts about this, now they are both gone, what's that about?
This is the kind of shit dictators do - replace the people in their government who don’t agree with them for people who do.
I remember when people thought Obama was going to make it so he could run for a third term and then stay in office indefinitely, but I feel like Obama never did anything close to what this administration has done.
Dont you know its because Obama is a dirty librul and secret Kenyan muzlim?!?!? /s
In all seriousness though I may not have 100% agreed with Obama but I miss having him in the white house. He was a good speaker, a good diplomat, and from what I gather he’s a great Dad and family man all of which Mr.Trump is not.
Tillerson found out from Trump's tweet
Criticize Russia yesterday, walking papers today...that's odd...
What is the turnover count by now? This is pretty egregious.
It's bad. It's really bad.
dunno the count but percentage wise its almost 50%
I just think that picking the former head of an intelligence agency (especially one with the reputation of the CIA) as your chief diplomat is going to breed distrust with anyone you attempt to negotiate with.
Now Trump has the opportunity to put someone at the head of the CIA who he can coerce into denouncing the Russian interference that put him into the presidency. No Trump administration news is ever good news, never will be except, perhaps, if Trump suffers a deadly stroke.
I think Trump is in full "The Apprentice" mode. gotta fire somebody every week or you're not doing your job.
I hope you got to keep your frequent flyer miles, Rex.
I hope this isn't a prelude to firing Jeff Sessions. He's a terrible Attorney General (civil forfeiture, marijuana), but he's the only thing standing between Trump and Mueller, and the Republicans have so far refused to pass legislation protecting Mueller's investigation.
Please, please, call your Congresspeople and demand they pass legislation protecting Mueller. We may be running out of time.
Find someone who loves you as much as Trump loves Putin.
What do we know about Pompeo? I can't say I really know anything about him.
Tea party islamophobe who gladly and clandestinely invited and met with top Russian intelligence officials, actually, the top Russian intelligence official days before Trump declined to impose new sanctions on Russia.
Edit: distraction phase 2 is now underway.
Gina Haspel and Mike Pompeo are now in position to leverage extremist Muslim attacks to try to unify and distract country for Trump. I'm pretty sure this what was discussed with Pompeo and Sergey Naryshkin. I also believe that the same social media psyops campaign that Russia has been involved in worldwide quite possibly might be the same type of campaign that triggers Muslim attacks out of convenience or to let embattled Western nations do the dirty work for them
Russian stooge, naturally. Unqualified.
What a fucking joke administration. The Secretary of State didn’t even last 50 mooches.
Can you remind me how many days (or hours) a single mooch is?
Haha what a fucking shitshow, whoever voted for and keeps supporting this administration will go down in history as one of the stupidest electorate in US history
wow! this was gonna happen sooner or later. Mike Pompeo, the current CIA Director will replace Tillerson and Gina Cheri Haspel, the current Dy.Director of the CIA will be promoted to Director of the CIA, I think she'll be the first woman chief in the history of the CIA.
It's due to her penchant for torture than for being a woman.
Trump a feminist hero confirmed.
Trump is Douglas Renholm.
"I even got that award off those feminists! The one shaped like the ice cream fellow."
"That's the Shithead of the Year award. It actually says it on the base: Shithead of the Year. Did you not read the base?"
She's pretty evil. Trump knows how to find really evil ladies for jobs.
Unless you are a brown nose yes man there is no room in the DT organization. Tillerson will have a much happier life now.
I don't follow US news regularly but wasn't there a secret pact between Tillerson+Mattis and some other guy that was suppose to save them from this exact thing.
Lmao... This White House has a higher turnover rate than a Dairy Queen at the end of summer. It's cute watching Republicans try to govern but can we please get the grown ups back in charge?
Can't wait to hear how my dad will spin this one.
"Trump's just cutting the fat. He's running the government so efficiently that Tillerson can't keep up with his agenda. Having a high turn over rate is a good thing, it means you don't accept failure."
Uh oh, Tillerson is going to speak live at the State Department. Taking bets, which of the two ways is Tillerson going to go out:
Or will he call Trump a fucking moron, spill the beans, and blow the whole Trump administration wide open?
I'm going to have to go with option A, though I hope for option B.
edit: Well, shit. He went with option C: don't talk about Trump, talk up his own accomplishments, and a milquetoast warning about Russia and "oaths of office."
If this isn't proof that the Russians have dirt on Trump, I don't know what is.
It has to be something illegal like having sex with underage prostitutes or straight up murdering someone.
Man, I honestly don't know why Trump is even bothering. If Putin is truly the boogieman the media make him out to be, he will instantly release all the blackmail the instant Trump is out of of office or of no further use. It would further blacken the name of the US president.
I've long been surprised that Tillerson stuck around so long. A big company CEO doesn't put up with the type of chaos that he enjoyed.
If the Trump White House were a publicly traded company, Trump would've ben ousted as CEO ages ago. High turnover, constant controversy, questionable decisions and appointments, nepotism, legal investigations, corruption, bad PR...
If Trump was the CEO of a publicly traded company he would be in jail for SEC violations.
The director of the CIA is now Sec State. This will be interesting to see what foreign policy changes come out of his world viewpoint.
And the new director of the CIA is a woman who destroyed evidence to cover up the torture she and her colleagues used on detainees.
Can a Trump Supporter tell me how the large amount of resignations and firings in his administration are a good thing?
It’s night time in Russia... they’re mostly sleeping. Just wait a few hours.
Not only was Rex Tillerson fired, but his aide--Steve Goldstein--was fired too for releasing a statement on how Tillerson was fired. You can't make this shit up. What a farce.
We are witnessing a purge in real time, my god
