I’ve always stood by the fact that Edward and the other vampires “CaN’t HaNdLe HoW AmAzInG BeLlA’s BlOoD iS” but once a month, she’s not only leaking out of herself (she washed a blood STAIN with bleach one time to kill the smell), but just chucking out these swabs of cotton that this whole species is dying for?

Basically, Edward would’ve been sucking on her tampons like a popsicle is what I’m trying to say.

Edward perked up. He heard the rustle of paper crinkling through the bathroom door. His senses we're heightened and his nose was tingling. It was a heavy flow, he could sense it. He waited restlessly but patiently for her to finish.

She exited and he dashed in slamming the door behind him not letting Bella know what he was about to do. Rummaging through the garbage he found it. Liquid red gold on a pad. Feverishly he started licking and tearing off chunks with his teeth. He was insatiable for this menstrual delicacy. He finished with a red stain on his bottom lip, and his appetite suppressed until the next feeding session when she changed pads again.

Except that's not how it works at all. The tissue that separates from the uterus causes fresh bleeding from capillaries along the surface. That blood be fresh except when it's down to a tiny trickle at the end.

It's why some women can get anemic during a heavy period. If all that blood died over the course of a month the body would have mostly replaced it already.

Sorry, I don't mean to preach at you specifically OP. I just get really frustrated that women's basic biology isn't taught better.

In Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, the vampire Lestat (played by Tom Cruise in the movie Interview with the Vampire) uses his preternaturally long vampire tongue to tongue-fuck menstruating mortal women. Real trooper, that one.

And speaking of the Vampire Chronicles, it's the best vampire book series out there, and it's a crime that it wasn't ever made into a TV series or faithful movie adaptations when shit like Twilight, True Blood, and all the WB/CW had big budget films & series. I kinda get it though after the abomination called Queen of the Damned was a box office flop, but that's what they get for bastardizing everything that make the books so fun.

If I remember correctly there were some theories going around that Twilight was loosely based off of Dead Until Dark, the first of the series of books True Blood was based on. They both are about a love triangle between what seems to be a totally average girl who just happens to have supernatural catnip in their blood, a vegetarian vampire, and a werewolf/shapeshifter.

Sooo... if rumors are to be believed, 50 Shades is dirty fanfic of a clean Christian fanfic of a dirty vampire fantasy, that no doubt is just inspired by Anne Rice.

throwaway_7_7_7
6

But Sookie wasn't average from the get-go, she was a psychic/mind-reader. Which was the whole reason she was into vampires, because she couldn't hear their thoughts. And at least the first few Sookie Stackhouse books were less romance novels, but rather pretty standard 'Private Eye/Southern Crime' novels, but with an urban fantasy flavorblast. The plots might be stupid, but they had a plot. Twilight was pretty much never about anything more than the, uh, "romance" between two unlikable idiots.

Twilight was based off a wet dream of Stephenie Meyer's (no really, she said that with her own mouth, in front of other people).

This is the thing casual fans don't get. If you started watching the show last year or a few years ago, that's great. But for long time watchers like myself who in some ways grew up with the show, the failure of an ending was easily the largest disappointment in television history, a deep and personal betrayal. Too true, years ago I used to wonder to myself how I was gonna live with the show ending and no more episodes for Game of Thrones airing, I’m pretty sure all my love and excitement died with this show’s last episodes. The only thing I’m pissed off about is that fact that the actors are so in denial that season 8 was a complete shit storm. Either way, since the show ended I haven’t really cared that it finished permanently, the memes are the best thing that has come out of this show in years.

Romkevdv
29

I think its because the actors still depend on the show for much of their popularity, career and income. I think even now they have ties with people who worked there and just the show in general. Many people, though, have spotted actors in interviews saying certain things or acting certain ways that hint towards their true opinion and how shit it is. Especially Emilia Clarke (someone asked if she is happy how her character turned out), Kit Harrington (question about one word to describe the final season, he said ‘disappointing’ and even as a joke he sounded quite serious) and Peter Dinklage (when asked about stuff about his character he said D&D were geniuses so it must all have been for a reason, his face and tone said it all though).

svenhoek86
24

Not only that, it affects your opportunities elsewhere in the industry. If you're known as the type to bitch and moan the second your contract is up you don't get as much work. Best thing you can do is just stfu, say you worked with a lot of great talented people who gave their all, and wait for your agent to get you another paycheck.

spikeyfreak

Why do you think the actors are in denial?

Matt_9197
9

Basically the actors for Sansa and Jon Snow reached out about the hate everyone was giving Game of Thrones, Kit Harrington was saying how critics should go f themselves, which is understandable, since hundreds of people gave their everyday lives to creating the show, but at the same time, the seasons writing was absolutely terrible, with what seems like no thought and no real closures to many storylines or plots we’ve been wanting. Characters arcs were thrown away, including Varys little-finger and in my opinion Jon Snows and Tyrion’s. People have every right to criticise the show, and the actors don’t want any of it, and can’t see the mess it is because it’s been a huge part of their lives. Everything about the show was amazing, except for the storyline, that’s pretty much it, and it’s the main thing that drove it to the ground.

Lemonthebear
7

I mean Kit had an interview before it aired where he was asked to describe season 8 in one word and he chose "disappointing" and then played it off.

I don't think he is in denial about it but might be tired of people talking their anger out of the cast.

Man, for sure. They could have done 3 more seasons, and done them properly. Not only are people canceling years earlier than if they had done 3 more seasons, they missed out on potential new customers too. Then you take into account how they're dumping money into a prequel nobody wants or cares about anymore, which I doubt is going to attract too many new subscriptions. This prequel is targetted at people who were invested in the lore of game of thrones and season 8 spat in their faces.

-Totally_Not_FBI-

Its caused quite a bit of pain. They have for sure made their money back and a lot more, but they know the potential lost. If it wasn't for contracts already being signed I'm sure Disney would drop D&D, but they would get heavily sued for breach of contract.

Band of Brothers or Breaking Bad

In terms of cultural cache, viewership, zeitgeist, it had already eclipsed both. Are you talking in terms of it being a prestige show with great reviews? That's only one part of a legacy; they already have the spin off in the works, and you gotta realize HBO's biggest cash cow is possibly "Sex and the City." Prestige shmeshtige. They want money, they got money.

hamakabi
4

I've never heard "cultural cache" before but if it means the combination of those two words, I don't see how a medieval fantasy tale could possibly fit the definition more than a docu-drama about a WWII, or a present-day drama about organized crime and human desperation.

Sure GoT got way more viewers than both, but it absolutely will not have the level of persistent significance of either. BoB expertly told one of the most compelling and important stories of the 20th century. You can't just discount prestige. The name HBO carries weight because they have a long history of creating stellar content that you couldn't get on cable, like BoB, the Sopranos, and yes even Sex and the City. You can rewatch all of those shows today, and fans can still evangelize people into watching them for the first time. People who love those shows will sub to HBO will watch them again in between new content. People who subbed for GoT will never come back just to watch it, and will not tell new people to start it for the first time.

HBO will continue to enjoy massive success on the backs of great new content like Chernobyl or Barry of course, but with GoT they slaughtered the cow and sent it to market, whereas BoB and other will produce milk for decades. Prestige something you can cash in on over and over. HBO would fail if they only ever made shows comparable to GoT. They would never stop chasing the next cash cow because none of their subscribers would stick around for soured content.

To date the only explanation I've ever seen for those symbols was D&D talking about the caves on Dragonstone, saying something like "Cultures on Earth have spiral symbols, we thought spiral symbols would be cool" or some such shit...

Really shows you the level of thought that was being given to those scripts.

Vivir_Mi_Vida
43

Even if you fan wank it to "the signs were from the children of the forest" and "thr night King was created to kill humans" that's not really an explanation for anything.

It was mystery for the sake of mystery instead of a legitimate plot point.

Bran's "he wants to kill me because the 3er is the memory of humanity" was 1. Delivered with so much lackluster it felt like it didn't even matter and 2. Still explains nothing. Why does the NK want to destroy all human memory anyway? Why does that benefit him? Does his mission then include the maesters?

In the end it didn't even matter. Mystery for the sake of mystery, they did it because it looked cool.

PoorlyLitKiwi2
11

I think the single explanation is the CotF were pissed cause the first men were infringing on their territory, so they created the walkers to destroy all humans, but then the walkers got out of control.

Not really a shocking reveal or anything, but that's the explanation I believe

Vivir_Mi_Vida
8

But the show never explained why the walkers rebelled against the CotF to the point where they began activity killing them. Was it simply rebelling against their creators? If so why did they feel the need to fulfill their original objective to kill humans? How does the 3ER fit into this dynamic? Are the walkers merely zombies with only basic thought or sentient beings capable of complex thought? They have ranks, they seem to make specific choices but their ending suggests otherwise.

If anything the lore became either to complicated to fully explain or the writers just got lazy in explaining and exploring it.

They destroyed the set up by not letting the White Walkers get past 1 battle. Maybe (maybe) a non-White Walker prequel. But why would I care about the White Walkers?

Did they have a connection to the Starks? Didn't matter in how they are defeated.

They would have to come out and say something like "we're going to pretend season 8 didn't happen" or how D&D imagined the White Walkers is not pertinent

it actually ruined the whole franchise for me. Not even that interested in how the books end any more and I was pretty into them. Listening to other GRRM books and it just feels like none of them will ever achieve the same level of epic scale story arc so those are trash now too. I was mad, now I'm just numb and disappointed with all parties involved including GRRM

Look at it this way: If we never get another book, we are left with an incomplete book series which was leading to really interesting things and had really interesting plot lines going, a book series that never declined in quality and stayed true to its core message and themes. So in the books, even if unfinished, the Whitewalkers (called The Others) are very relevant and a main focus for the plot, and they always will be.

I just did a rewatch. Its still amazing in those seasons but I made it as far as halfway through season 7 episode 4. Something just felt off with the acting in the scene were Tyrion discusses the plan to capture the dead.

Everything seemed to take a nose dive after that episode. I know there was stuff earlier that were not that great but that particular moment had me stop watching further. It felt like a lot of the actors knew it was going downhill and something about the acting was different like they clocked out mentally.

jonpaladin

it's like, why would tyrion care to convince cersei of anything? he fucking hates her, they hate each other, he and varys must be smart enough to come up with a plan to kill her ass. she has no supporters. what's the point of convincing her? she's a liar and a traitor with no redeeming qualities. he thought he needed to convince cersei in order to save the people of king's landing? is that the justification? even at the end dany could have just torched the red keep instead of the city. aaaurgh

then remember when the night king was inexplicably immune to dragonfire?!?!? come ON

JackedUpReadyToGo
4

Tyrion's relationship to Cersei has been absolutely inexplicable in the last two seasons. How did D&D just forget that she's a scheming bitch who wants Tyrion dead more than anything in the world? And Tyrion knows it! But he thinks he can show her a zombie and win her over, believes her when she swears her army to the fight, tries to fucking talk her out of war at the gates of King's Landing? "I know you're not a monster"?! No he doesn't, he knows better than ANYONE that she IS a fucking monster.

Everyone knows Tyrion turned into a retard once he fled King's Landing, but seemingly forgetting how Cersei behaves just takes the cake.

It’s absolutely going to be a factor that affects GoT everything for a while. With the endings being terrible, I’m:

1) not going to rewatch it or the behind the scenes stuff (and therefore keep paying monthly for HBO)

2) I’m not going to buy the BluRay which I was actually really considering for the first time in forever

3) No real desire to keep digging into backstory since in the end, none of it really mattered at all for the main story

It’s gonna hit HBO on multiple fronts with how crappy the end of this mega franchise was

This happened to me with The Office recently.

I used to watch seasons 1-7 over and over. Once Michael left, I just started back at the beginning. It was so much fun and I enjoyed every single episode. I didn't really care how it ended, I just loved the ride.

Finally, after some insistance from friends/family, I decided to sit down and finish the series. While the ending of The Office was no where near as bad as GoT, I was still really disappointed. Now I just don't feel like starting from the beginning anymore. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss.

Edit: Considering that Netflix is losing the Office, this was probably good timing now that I think about it.

I actually didn't mind it as much as I thought I would once Michael left. He was always so cringy and gross so him leaving was kind of a nice breather for me. I never considered the show canon after mid-season 5 anyways, so I feel just fine honestly. To me Jon Snow is still dead at Castle Black, Stannis is preparing to fight the Boltons, Daenerys is flying away on Drogon from Meereen, Arya is still training in the House of Black & White, Sansa is with Littlefinger in the Vale, Jamie left King’s Landing, and Cersei is awaiting her trial while King Tommen and Queen Margaery rule. The last couple of seasons have been fun to watch from an outsider, non-invested perspective, with everybody losing their shit and thinking that D&D were anything but hacks, and that they actually knew what they were doing.

It's like the kingsguard.

People are like "Why were all the past kingsguard so awesome but the current ones are just murderers?"

By all accounts, Rhaegar was the best of what the Targaryens had to offer in generations, and yet...

Context is important though. We're not all heirs to a throne, and we sure as hell aren't forced into marriages with underage girls anymore. Golduckberg

If I was forced to marry someone I never met or never liked and put children into her

That's a point of view without empathy for your wife though. The woman you were forced to marry was also put into that situation, so unless she's a horrible wife and mother (which by all accounts Rhaegar's wife was not) you owe it to her and your children to make it work.

Most marriages at some point involve you not liking each other, I don't see abandoning your responsibilities as a father or husband as something "many of us" would have done.

the sake of actual love.

Getting off topic, but love is a verb and a commitment, not some magical entity, lust, or some emotion you feel. You can choose to love your wife, not let your emotions and lust take you after the latest flavor of the month girl you met at the fairgrounds.

I’ve heard fantasy simplified as “the world after the really really cool thing”. The genre involves building a living world different from our own, and all worlds have history.

If US Politics were a fictional book series that started in 2018, they might allude to the Iraq War, 9/11, or the Clinton Presidency. If they made a prequel about those formative events, they’ll be building on top of Watergate or the Kennedy Assassination. And so on and so forth until prehistoric ages.

In the same way, Blood Moon is just going to have its own collection of history, feuds, and origins. Except viewers will actually know how this plot ends.

And the creator of it, Craig Mazin, is known for telling D&D that their unaired original pilot for Game of Thrones was "one of the worst pieces of shit" he'd ever seen, and they credit him as the reason they reshot it. Should've run the S8 scripts by him.

Usually shows that have an extremely high score on IMDb only get 1/10 or 10/10. It's weird how people think, if you didn't love the 9.5 show, it must be an 1/10 (to lower the score in most cases I guess). Shows that average 7-8 usually get way more variety in the scores though

The_Adventurist

I’m very sad it was only 5 episodes.

Don't be. Part of the reason you liked it so much was the steady pacing. If they extended it further, that would have to change and it would be a different series, maybe one you don't like as much.

I think short, high production value series' should be encouraged.

From what I’ve learned from discussions with other people, and my own personal feelings, I don’t believe many people, including myself, have any issue with what happened. What I want is a well crafted story. There are some AMAZING plots that could land us at the same place with Dany and Bran. Then Dumb and Dumber walk-in, light it all on fire, and pat themselves on the back for subverting expectations.

The show wasn’t disappointing because of Mad Dany and King Bran.

It’s disappointing because it rushed to those endings with not enough time devoted to those arcs to properly develop them.

I was all on board with Mad Dany because we’ve seen so many villain to hero arcs (Theon and Jamie) a true reversal of that would have been incredible if done properly.

Unpopular opinion: GRRM is partially responsible for the show’s decline in quality. The showrunners made the show bad when they ran out of source material. So why aren’t we blaming the guy who is supposed to be providing the source material, who is also the same guy who made them showrunners in the first place.

To be fair to the new GoT shows: They won't be run by D&D. And when they are done and they got good reviews, then I'll consider giving them a go. But I won't be made a fool of a second time!!!

My Ep 3 hype (that was built up OVER FUCKING YEARS) died almost instantly when I saw this sequence:

Dothraki charge into the dark in an area where they didn't prepare the battlefield in any way shape or form (no light, traps, spikes, etc and lets not forget they didn't even plan on the flaming swords), as they are charging, it is revealed that they put their LONG RANGE ARTILLERY ON THE FRONT LINES AHEAD OF THE FLAMES/SPIKES WITH NO DEFENSE IN FRONT, and to top it all off Jon + Dany with their fucking dragons watch it all while providing zero support.

This all happening within 5 minutes or less immediately ruined my immersion and had me searching for other stupid shit like that (which I found plenty of).

TBH I thought Arya's NK kill was fine compared to the rest of the bullshit in that episode. After watching an incredibly unrealistic battle (like obv fighting undead is unrealistic but I mean their battle strategy was flat out wrong and was so easily picked apart and improved upon by random ass youtubers or me with my zero battle experience) that completely removed my immersion and left me at almost 0-hype, seeing her get the NK kill literally out of fucking no where actually made my yell out in excitement.

TBH I thought Arya's NK kill was fine compared to the rest of the bullshit in that episode

Really? That was just as much bull shit as the rest of the episode... Night King does the "slow bad guy" walk up to Bran and Arya somehow magically sneaks through an army of walkers to get to the night king? She couldn't even sneak through the library without getting spotted earlier in the same exact episode and those walkers were a lot more spaced out than the literal army surrounding Bran standing shoulder to shoulder.

I'm okay with the idea of Arya being the one to kill the NK, but the kill scene was executed about as poorly as the rest of the battle for winterfell.

Honestly that's exactly where I am at. Why the fuck would I care after that ending? Not even blaming HBO because, as I understand it. They did ask for more. So I am sure they are going to do it right. I just can't bring myself to care.

I’m still definitely gonna watch it. Season 8 was ass, but I’m not gonna let that ruin a whole world of lore and interesting stories for me. Maybe it will be good. I’m pretty sure GRRM will be involved in the pilot too

Blood Moon sounds like a Twilight prequel about Bella having her first period.

Since dumbass and dipshit have nothing to do with it, there might be a chance it could be good.

I speak for all the Freefolk: Nobody here gives a fuck about BloOdMoOn. Nobody. What's the point when you already know how incompetent the White Walkers are? Who in their right mind would watch a whole damn show dedicated to those pussies?

If anyone here says "YoU dOn'T sPeAk fOr alL oF uS..."

Just fuck off, kneeling cunts.

For anyone thinking Martin will finish the books and/or they will be only 7 books, keep in mind that Robert Jordan originally thought the Wheel of Time was going to be only 7 books as well.

He’s still dealing with War of Five Kings and that was supposed to only be three books.

Why the fuck would we want to watch a prequel to a story that ends with a fart when we don’t even want to watch the current show ever again because of said fart?

If Blood Moon is awesome its only going to make season 8 more disappointing.

Why would anyone care about a prequel that takes place thousands of years before GOT. It will have nothing to do with GOT as we know it.

Why wouldn’t they do Bobby B rebellion? seems way more logical and way more exciting.

[B]y the time I finish writing A SONG OF ICE & FIRE, you will know every important thing that happened in Robert’s Rebellion. There would be no surprises or revelations left in such a show, just the acting out of conflicts whose resolutions you already know. That’s not a story I want to tell just now; it would feel too much like a twice-told tale.
