I like how she looks at the driver like its his fault
My friend and I were turning into a shopping mall one time. We were turning left across a two way street into the parking lot. There was literally zero traffic on the street but a van coming up to the stop sign from INSIDE the parking lot. We proceed to turn in while he runs the stop sign turning left nearly T-boning us. This guy turns around and tailgates us all the way till we stop in a parking spot. He jumps out and runs up to my friends window yelling at us. Apparently we nearly hit him and we looked high.
Even after pointing out the shopping mall cameras that caught him
He still threatened to call the police and have us arrested. He even admitted (after going through our driving scenario instead of his) that we followed the law....that didn’t matter, we were supposed to give him the right of way to avoid the wreck....
...how? You were going to hit the side of us?
Once I got reared-ended on the freeway by some guy who didn't pay attention and didn't see traffic had come to a stand still. Hit so hard my car was projected into the one in front.
Guy who rear-ended me yelled at me for "not respecting safety distances".
His insurance ended up paying for damages to all three cars. What a fucking idiot.
As his insurance should! He caused the wreck! Damn fool
Do you pity him? Do you pity the fool?
Probably not. Most of us don't have the capacity for grace embodied in Mr. T. And some fools just don't deserve it.
The man is a saint.
And some fools just don't deserve it.
And some fools just don't deserve it.
Even less so after jibba jabba.
Why I don't have my license yet, crazy ass drivers, stupid ass people and I would pity an idiot who cant think about others.
I DO SIR, I DO!!!
Back in 2010 I t-boned a Jeep who decided that, with no cars behind me, it was a smart idea to cross a two lane road right in front of me while I'm going 45. Totaled my car, fractured a bunch of shit in my right hand, their car ended up flipping onto the roof (BECAUSE SHOCKER OF SHOCKERS IF YOU GET HIT WITH MULTIPLE TONS OF SCREAMING METAL DEATH GOING 45 MPH THAT SHIT HAPPENS).
The fucking cunts decided to sue me five years later, filing the day before the statute of limitations was up. They lost, not only from the police report that put me in the clear, not only from the fact that they were 100% at fault, and not only from the fact that the genius husband and wife sued each other while also sueing me, but that my testimony was totally factual and accurate, with corroborating evidence, and the husband, who was driving, couldn't even tell you what fucking DAY it was, let alone if he took his medication that day, was paying attention while driving, etc, etc, etc.
TL;DR: Idiots caused accident, tried to sue me five years later, lost the case because they're borderline retarded.
You'd be surprised how many clueless people think their car weighs 1,000lbs or less, and is the safest place in the world.
Try again, a new Mustang is a pretty small car and still comes in around 3,500lbs. Think how much damage that'll do to a crowd
Uhm... I know you Americans drive crazy big cars, but how is a Mustang a "pretty small car"?! A VW Golf VII is half a Meter shorter and it's basically THE standard car in Europe.
A Smart or a Fiat 500 is "a pretty small car". Maybe an old Ford Fiesta is a "kind of small car". A Mustang is a pretty big car.
Compared to the pseudo-monster truck, jacked up F150s that some people drive, 3500 is pretty small/standard. Most sedans are ~2800-3800 lbs.
Ah, the Ford Compensator
Actually, that'd be buses.
To be fair, 3,500 lbs doesn't really qualify as multiple tons (it's 1.75 tons).
I mean, he did specify that Mustangs are a fairly small car to provide context, and you’re being petulant.
The first motorcycle accident I had involved an old man trying to make a U-turn from the right lane on a 4 lane road. He side swiped me and forced my motorcycle to go into incoming traffic. Later on while he spoke to the officer he told the office 3 scenarios:
He (I) was speeding and cut me (him) off
He (I) was cutting through traffic so again I didn’t see him. We were both at the front of he line at a red light prior to the accident
He (I) wouldn’t let me merge into the left lane so I (Him) had to hit him out of my way. The cop looked at him confused and said ohh so your admitting to attempted murder. He quickly redacted his comment
Jesus please be careful and always wear your safety gear - even down to the corner store. <3
i found this comment diffficult to read. as you weren’t quoting it would be better to write solely from your perspective
I really hate human beings
We're not all cunts, just the cunty ones.
This mother driving with her son on a 30 mph city road hit my car door while I was stepping into the car. Bent the door almost to the front wheel. She said I shouldn't open my door in traffic. I was walking up to my car when I saw her a block away, I had one leg out the door as I was about to slide all the way in and close it and the door was touching my leg, then BAM! She hits me. The road wasn't that narrow and she could have easily avoided the accident simply by watching her distance from the parked cars. Apparently she didn't even see me stepping into my car.
It’s you who is the bad boy, not they!
One time my father parked his car after dropping a friend off at the court house. He parallel parked the car and got out. He looked up and down the street (busy 4 lane one way road in a city of 120,000 people) saw no traffic and started to cross. The woman who was parked behind his car, in the spot directly behind him mind you, decided it was time for her to leave and pulled into the road and ran him over! I will say he was jaywalking but he checked before he walked and she had to have seen him park and start to walk across the street! Luckily she stayed and didn’t try to run and pops was ok but damn that was scary
it's one car distance per ten miles per hour. one car length isn't doing shit for you if you're going over 30 mph
I was headed up a hill with a blind curve at the top. I needed to turn left down a side street just before the blind curve. To see around the curve I had moved over so I was basically on the double yellow lines, if not just slightly over it. As I got to where I was suposed to turn I saw a red car flying over the top of the hill and around the blind curve, which was about 150ft ahead of me, so I moved completely back into my lane and started braking so I could stop and let them pass. They decided it was safer to come into my lane and just let me turn in front of them, resulting in us colliding head on. I get out of my car and ask "Are you ok?", the 17 year old driving the other car responds "Dude, you dont hesitate, you just go!" His insurance paid for everything.
Guy who rear-ended me yelled at me for "not respecting safety distances".
Isn't that literally the job of the guy in the rear?
Even though he is the one responsible for making sure he's a safe distance from the car in front
Lol you respected the safety distances way better than he did.
My favourite was a woman who rear-ended a big truck she claimed had braked suddenly. Turned out it had been parked there for three days. Oh, and she was drunk.
Who turned you into a shopping mall??
Some kind of wizard.
I got better
He got better.
I had a lady one time that cut me off when she went from the far right lane to the far left lane. I was like wtf lady, but then I looked over at her and you know how some people do that thing where you cheerfully wave at someone who just cut you off or something and they are road raging? Yeah, she was doing that. Big goofy sarcastic smile and a parade wave. I almost bled from my eyes.
Well you see officer, it was really just a simple case of justified homicide...
Edit: missed a word
We were nearly T-boned. We honestly should have. At least then the law could have even told him he was a jackass.
Ahhh I missed that keyword! My bad! He sounds like an asshole
Did he want to ge beat up? Cus thats how that happens
You should have called the police
Just punch him in the face.
"Yeah, officer. This one right here. The one laying on the cold on the ground. His face didn't give my fist the right of way to avoid the punch."
Did he just leave?
My dad was turning left out of a parking lot onto a busy street in a larger SUV back when I was much younger. There was a car to our right, turning right into the same street. This car just pulls out and gets T-boned by another vehicle. He immediately gets out and starts screaming at my dad for blocking his view so he couldn't see the oncoming traffic.
Then, this boner actually says to the cop who shows up "I got hit because I couldn't see around that guy's car!" To which the cop replies "...If you couldn't see why did you pull out?" . .....crickets......
when you know you're right, let them call the cops. just stop talking until the cops get there. bury the know-it-all pricks. explain to whoever was waiting for you that you had a traffic incident and you will be along shortly. it'll be worth it to see the epic cop eyeroll
I did get tboned in the way you describe. We exchanged insurance info, but I told them I'd rather not make a big deal about it since I hate insurance, and we could deal with it ourselves. I knew they thought it was my fault, but I figured I deal with them after the old guy calmed down. No cops were called. I get a call the next day from my insurance agent saying they filled a claim. I explained what happened. It was obvious to her that they were at fault. There insurance called me. They said I admitted fault. Nope I just let him say it was my fault. Well they said you didn't want to go thru insurance. I don't like insurance companies, I was hoping to avoid this, but since we are taking, damn right I am filing a claim.
tldr: silly bitch filed claim, now they pay for my car, which I was originally not going to deal with since I hate talking to insurance people.
And did you then contact the mall for the videos and police?
No shit a couple days ago I saw a FedEx driver flipping out on a lady simply for making a proper turn with turn signal on and everything
Acted like she was the idiot for slowing him down
Im 35 and I swear a good majority of drivers are more idiotic now than 20yrs ago when I first started driving
I’m 39 and can confirm. Every city has the worst drivers, everyone thinks they are the best driver, and getting around town for work I see some shit.
I live in a city, and it’s a fact that I am the best driver in town.
You obviously mustn't live in my city then because that claim wouldn't make any sense.
[cue Western music]
In the land of gridlock, the non-driving man is king.
Nobody drives in New York! There’s too much traffic.
You must not live in my city because I’m the best driver here...not that I drive, because I live in the city.
No, I am.
I'll race ya to the stop light.
Everybody going faster than me is a reckless maniac, and everyone going slower is a timid moron.
I'm Rural near a city and can tell you Rural drivers aren't any better than city ones
Especially the commuters who would do anything to keep cruise control set at 65mph even if passing me in a tractor with a turn signal on
I've almost hit many cars trying to pass me as I'm turning
Yep, I drive to/from a city and rural area. Same shit different toilet.
The city drivers do all the stereotypical assholish shit we see on r/idiotsincars, and the rural drivers never pay attention, go 15 under the speed limit, and ignore every sign/light.
This shit is 120% true I can’t stand the people that drive 20 under the speed limit in a 55 like 55 is going fast it’s a straight stretch Susan hit the damn gas pedal.
Yep. If you don't want to speed, by all means, that's fine, but going 20 on a perfectly straight 10-mile farm-to-market road with a 65 speed limit on a sunday afternoon? Come the fuck on.
Found the Texan.
Fucking nailed that one.
Farm-to-market gave you away.
It’s dangerous. It’s basically like being parked in the road.
Also love it when they start randomly braking on these perfectly straight roads for no reason.
Where I live, 80%+ of people seem to go 15-20 under the limit, some days. Then I feel like I'm some kind of reckless speeder as I zoom past them all in the other lane, when I'm only doing the limit
Anything 10 mph or under speed limit is dangerous. Esp on an interstate.
Agreed and onramps are to get up to speed not hesitate and almost get rear ended I hate people they infuriate me with crap like this.
This is so true.
IMO the best rural drivers are the 16 year old kids who're driving dad's new harvester on the road for the first time ever. They're observant, cautious, and use their indicators.
A close second is the tractors who're on the road with their twin wheels still on (despite being illegal on public road). They know they're on thin ice, and will practically pull off the road to make sure they don't hit you with their wheels.
Complacency, laziness, overconfidence, and a lack of empathy make bad drivers. Youngsters in daddy's truck usually don't have these traits yet, so I totally agree they're usually the most courteous drivers on the roads in small towns.
That'd be because the harvester cost the best part of a half million dollars and isn't paid for yet.
I’m in a rural-ish area and always when driving AT the speed limit, I have someone up my ass with their lights on. Makes me want to go slower.
I get this a lot, too, but that's usually just the one dickhead late for work at the tractor supply in his dually road princess that thinks "big truck = owns road" lol
So your the idiot that don’t want to get anywhere...
Honest question. Isn't the middle lane also a travel lane? We don't have too many 3 or 4 lane highways in my immediate area, but I thought that the left lane is for passing and the other lanes are travel lanes. Are these people breaking the law, or just committing a faux pas?
In an area with frequent exits, I treat the middle lane as a travel lane to allow traffic getting on and off to use the right most lane to do so. Dunno if that's the proper way tho.
Staying one lane in because people in the right are regularly slowing to exit or getting up to speed after entering in an area with frequent exits is totally legit - you're passing slower traffic in the right lane. It's people camping in the left lane from Topeka to Oklahoma City forcing people to pass on the right that piss me off.
And they always have Texas plates
I have to be honest, as long as I'm not holding up anything behind me, I tend to do the same. You're not really meant to do this, (they call it the "Middle Lane Owner's Club") but if there are frequent junctions, most of which have cars entering, then I will as a courtesy.
I wouldn't do it on, say, the M1 where the distance between junctions is in the region of 10 miles.
Totally agree. There's a good stretch of I10 in Texas that's 3 lanes but the exits are miles apart. I'll scooch over to the right in that case.
Yep, I think that's how it's supposed to be done. Keep right except to pass of course, but also be mindful of what's going on around you. If sitting in the middle lane is causing inconvenience, move right (or left in my case since I'm in the UK).
One thing I like to do - especially late at night when the roads are damned-near empty and which probably makes me an asshole - is a thing I call 'orbiting'.
Say I'm sitting in the left-most (inside) lane, and I'm doing maybe 75. In the distance there's some jackwad in the middle lane of an empty motorway doing maybe 65 or so. So I quickly catch up and get to within maybe 50' of him. Has he seen my approach? Nah - these people don't use mirrors on the motorway or anywhere else.
So I do a staged overtake, (because it's illegal here to change two lanes at once). I get behind him, then to the right of him, then mash the loud pedal and go past him. Once properly clear I get in front of him, then to the left of him.
And then... I slow down until he passes me. Repeat until bored. Do you know how many people have taken the hint? Maybe five in the last 15 years. Move over you stupid pillocks.
I realise it's a waste of time, but when driving at night I'll take any entertainment I can get!
I do the speed limit in the middle lane and still be passed left and right. I try to not except when I’m preparing to change highway directions and I’ll still get honked and flashed at.
Like what do you want? Me to stay as right as possible and have to cut you off across 3 lanes to take the exit I need or pre plan my lane 1/2 mile ahead at 55mph.
Hell I still get passed left and right even in the right lane. I’ve had so many people move into ending entrance ramps and floor it to pass me usually running them selves off the road onto the shoulder then do 90 in a 55.
Honestly you’re too slow then it sounds like. If the right is passing you every single time you drive on the freeway, you need to either speed up with the flow of traffic or take side streets with lower speed limits.
People in my beach town think it’s ok to go 45 on the freeway and is simply not, even if you’re in the right lane that’s too slow. We only have two lanes on our freeway and the left lane wants to go 75-80, so the right going 45 makes things more dangerous if anything.
There are side streets with speed limits around there, no need to go 2/3 the speed limit on the one part meant for driving fast...
I’m on a 3-4 lane,at all times, freeway doing 55-60 in a 55 in the right lane. (Everywhere on this highway is 55)
Not going slow at all.
Pretty sure this is in England as the driver of the car got out of the right side so the truck was in the slow lane
I wasn't referring to the specifics of the video; this branch of the subthread was hijacked by a rural vs urban discussion which I took farther afield. Even so, knowing the vid was in England, I took care to use inner/outer vs left/right. I wasn't critiquing the lorry driver; was speaking more generically about people who attempt to drive on highways as if they were in city traffic.
Statement: The three lanes are all operating at the same speeds of travel, the speed limit. The law is the law. The other lanes exist for vehicles to bypass highway obstructions, there is no three speeds of travel.
That wasn't my question. 3 and 4 lane highways work differently. The middle lane is still considered a travel lane and people are still allowed to travel in it. Unless you have found some citation to prove otherwise? Regardless if you are going slower than the flow of traffic I do agree you should remain in the rightmost lane, however the middle lane is still a travel lane.
Edit: I don't hang out in the left lane, nor do I go slow and obstruct traffic. I am speaking only in terms of what is legal and what is not. I have traveled many areas with 3 and 4 lanes and have had difficulty getting off or on due to slow drivers in the center lanes, but I don't believe what they are doing is illegal. Just rude and annoying.
In Europe, you'd be wrong. It would be illegal. Most people know this and move over but there are morons who don't get this. I started to overtake them on the right when I'm already in the right lane. Also, simply cruising at travel speed in the centre lane slows down everyone else. Just move over to the right if there's space. This makes motorway driving safer, quicker and more importantly, less infuriating
I drive semi-rural with tractors on the road. A lot of people have no chill for the guy on the tractor. They are outraged at having to drive 25 in a 35mph for a mile and will take risks to pass them.
I've been stopped at an intersection with a double wagon set waiting for traffic so I can cross and some idiot goes around me and turns immediately in front of me and took off
I was just letting out the clutch as this bastard cuts in front of me
I was also hit hauling Anhydrous tanks this spring while making a turn at an intersection and the guy even said he didn't even let off cruise control as he was trying to pass
I do this and actually had someone let me in when I had my blinker on a couple days ago. That was the first time someone did that instead of speeding up to block me.
I drive in thick traffic every day. I only allow people into my lane in front of me if they use their signal.
I do not allow entry unless they make that effort.
If a person can't make that effort, then fuck 'em.
Those 10% kept it real lol
I am 29, and I hate other people
I read something about this on my phone while I was driving the other day.
It's easy to have "rosy retrospection" - the tendency to see the past in a more positive light. I'm 56 and can testify that there were idiot drivers 40 years ago. And from what my dad's comments (rural letter carrier so he put in many many miles per day), there were plenty of idiot drivers 70 years ago.
Idiots have existed as long as humans have.
Can confirm, am idiot.
I do think cellphones have taken it to a whole different level. I see so many people on their phone while driving. Especially something like google maps, it is just asking for distracted drivers.
Although I'm sure before cellphones people used to do other crazy shit. One time I saw a dude driving a van on the highway going 100km+ and he had 3 binders spread out on the dash and was doing his fucking taxes or something. No hands on the wheel.
Just... what is wrong with people lol.
Especially something like google maps, it is just asking for distracted drivers.
Especially something like google maps, it is just asking for distracted drivers.
Before google maps and the web, when getting ready for a road trip, I used to sit down with maps and write out the route I needed to take. Or if one had a AAA membership, one could get a "trip-tick" book printed out (IIRC that was the name) which had routes figured out step by step. You better not take a wrong turn though. Or when we moved to an new city we had these books (greater washington DC street map book: https://imgur.com/a/ngGm0Pv ).
But no matter what, one had to keep scanning for street & highway signs, not sure if you were at your turn or not, constantly checking that you were on the right road (a particular problem in the DC region as many road changed names as you left one municipality to the next). And you had to glance down at directions or the paper map. Woe if one's route went from, say page 23 to page 47 to page 44. It's a different kind of distracted driving but it's still distracted driving. And it meant you had to slow down to check street signs - a pain for people behind you. It was a fact of life though.
I loved having my garmin and now my cell phone set up on my dash so I don't have to move my head to check the map. I can track my route and keep my eyes on the road. IMHO, this is a big improvement.
I don't text or even do phone calls when driving. So that's not an issue with me.
I like to believe it's due to all the instant gratification lifestyle and the "do what you want as long as it makes you happy" (aka not caring if other people think you are an asshole) mentality that is causing this.
Florida actually has the worst traffic. Worse than LA during rush hour. It's insane.
You've never been to LA then. I'm a South Florida native, it's not even in my top 10 list for bad traffic. For shitty drivers it's up there, but worse than LA during rush hour? fuck no.
I have, actually. Perhaps you have not spent much time driving along I4 and 95 during Rush hour.
I've driven through both, and NYC.
Aggressive driving is one thing, but these old folks have no sense of self-preservation.
Sorry but you are just wrong, Florida ins't even on the list, while LA is consistently top 5. I used to drive 95 every day, West Palm to Miami and back, 8am-5pm. People suck in Florida, but they don't compare to many other places. And these are facts.
And I drive from Palm Coast to Rotonda regularly.
I get that Florida isn't on the list, but having driven in every city on those lists (in the US mind you, not the world), I would rather drive pretty much anywhere else besides trying to find a gas station at midnight through rural Jersey.
I probably shouldn’t be jumping into someone else’s argument but I feel that you and u/ben1481 may both be right/wrong. I too have driven all over the US and the traffic sucks everywhere there is traffic. I think what makes one person perceive the traffic in a particular area as being extremely shitty might have to do with their experience and their personality. For example, the traffic in NYC sucks because you don’t go anywhere. It’s boring as shit but if you stop paying attention for one second you’ll miss your chance. I hate sitting still in traffic. The traffic in LA sucks because people are super aggressive and you need to be too or you’ll never get anywhere and likely cause a bad accident. For me that can be stressful but I grew up in NJ where people are aggressive drivers so LA traffic doesn’t bother me too much; my wife hates it though. Miami traffic is not as aggressive as LA not is it as congested as NYC but everyone is doing their own thing. It’s like a melting pot of driving habits and it makes for pure chaos. To me South FL traffic is the worst because it’s so unlike what I grew up in. The truth is the traffic everywhere sucks because no one follows the rules and no one seems to care about anyone except themselves.
That's been my experience too. Aggressive drivers abound, but they have clear instincts for self preservation.
The LIE isn't in NYC, and it's far from the worst road in the metro area.
i mean if you're talking manhattan then yeah you're right. but everyone else outside of nyc considers nyc is pretty much all the metro area. but, the grand central to LIE or cross island to LIE is probably the most hell on earth i've ever been in. nobody willingly drives into manhattan when you can park for free in queens or brooklyn and take the train into manhattan in half the time and frustration
Yeah, the cross island and cross bronx suck. The tunnels and gw bridge too.
Went on a roadtrip because we wanted to drive up the PCH, wtf is with Claicornia drivers?
Laughs in Toronto, Ontario.
Ah the 401. An engineering marvel. 8 lanes each way, and a guaranteed fucking parking lot for a good 8 hours out of the day.
To be completely fair though, traffic anywhere in North America doesn't compare to places like Bangkok, Cairo, New Delhi, Beijing, etc. etc.
The worst traffic I have seen was in Milwaukee WI. A place known for it's beer factories, with roads who were obviously designed by a drunk who wasn't allowed to make straight lines, driven by people who seem to have alcohol in the drinking water.
Huh. Would not have guessed that. Sounds not that different from Deltona in road design. :P
Another really annoying occurrence there. A lot of two Lane roads, one lane going each direction with parking along the sides.
Every single light, someone, sometimes 2-3 someone's, would pile I to the right hand lane, then zip around the front cars at the light when it turned green.
Often with a car parked just on the other side of the intersection in that "lane".
This happened CONSTANTLY. Like WTF people.
There are so many people now who think that getting where they're going as fastly as possible means they're good drivers. Honestly I think they were raised by people who told them they were special and were never corrected when being petty or selfish, and even coddled when doing so. A bit of the old, "don't you know who I am???"
Social media is exactly what has done it... I was talking about how social media and the “selfie” generation was going to cause widespread entitlement and narcissism 15 years ago. The psychology is pretty basic and easy to understand and I must say, it’s everywhere. I’m so glad I’ve been off all social media platforms (except Reddit I guess?) for years. That shit is a cancer on everyone.
I come to a complete stop and use my blinker. I don't camp out at the sign/light or anything, but I let my vehicle entirely stop before I go, because I don't like tickets and I like to drive predictably.
Every day someone will get like an inch from my bumper and honk or flip me off, like I did something strange or wrong.
Yup. Happens to me all the time. Like stopping at a red light makes me a dumbass. You'd like to give the average person the benefit of the doubt, but don't.
About a week ago I stopped at a red light waiting for traffic to clear so I could make a right on red. Dude behind me in a pickup beeps at me, but I ignore it and continue waiting for traffic. Then he beeps at me again and inches forward. He can clearly see traffic moving across the intersection we're stopped at, so it's pretty obvious I have nowhere to go, but that doesn't matter. He starts laying on his horn in a series of long and short beeps, continually inching towards me like he's going to either hit me or force me out into moving traffic. I just smiled and waved at him in my mirror, and the dude absolutely lost his shit. He was flipping me off and intermittently waving his hands around like a lunatic and slamming on his horn. Once the traffic stopped and it was clear for me to go, I just sat there and waited for the light to change to green before I went, just to let him have his little tantrum a bit longer.
If he hadn't been a fucking asshole about it I would have made my right turn as soon as there was a break in traffic, but I'm not about to reward an adult for acting like a toddler.
It seems to be that truck drivers are a different breed of stupid.
I really don't get it, it's like people choosing to not use their blinker. Does it make you "uncool" or something to signal intent? Especially on a highway with like three cars. It saves lives, helps me help you get to where you want to go, and saves you from getting tickets and stuff. But, nah, that's for nerds I guess.
their mentality is "im doing what I want and don't care if you like it", it's incredibly annoying
Some people drive like they got a God damn death wish.
And if they keep driving the way they do, that wish may be granted.
GOTTA GO FAST
I think this also has to do with distracted driving. Too often phones, children, and passengers in the car have the drivers attention, not the road. Bad driver's take for granted all the good driver's around them and the safety environment of newer vehicles and traffic safety devices. Basically keeping all the shitty drivers alive.
Get yourself a manual and a semi-loud exhaust, and then when they tailgate you, punch both the gas & clutch to the floor. No one ever sees it coming
The road into my work complex has three stop signs, it's been long enough that I know who is gonna freak out if I stop properly at each one.
Whenever one of those people is behind me I count to three and look both ways before continuing. Sometimes it's the little things...
I like people who stop at stop signs. However, I will admit that I get very frustrated at the people who take forever to get up to speed (25mph!) and then they perform this super slow braking maneuver.
These are the same people that decide it's okay to merge onto the highway at 35mph despite half of a mile of on-ramp.
Any more I just assume they're either on their phones and distracted - or at least I hope they are because if they're driving like that while not being distracted worries me even more.
Too many see it as a right and not a privilege.
The problem is that public transport sucks and was specifically brought down by a conglomerate of car makers back in the day. We say driving is a privilege then make it literally impossible to live without it in 99% of places...
Its driving me insane. Two nights ago I had at least 3 people in a 30 mile drive bleed into my lane because they were on their phones. Also why the fuck does everyone camp in the left lane on their phone???
It's just become more commonplace for people to lose their shit in public than it was in previous times.
There are just more cameras.
I'm betting it's the same Percentage of idiocy, but the since the quantity of drivers have increased, so has the quantity of idiots.
I’m only 22 but everyone’s driving skills are getting exponentially worse each day. I’m pretty sure Monday was National Drive Like a Jackass Day.
Is it just me or are there days where people seem to drive like idiots more consistently? I'm not saying like "people drive bad on Mondays" but on a random day I'll have like 4-5 incidents where someone is tailgating, someone else pulls out in front of me, someone is driving 20 in a 45. Then it'll be fine for a few weeks or a couple months. Then one day everyone drives all fucked up again.
It’s every 5-6 weeks, I’ve noticed that too! My dad pointed it out to me when I was a kid and made some joke about it being related to the full moon. But I swear it’s true, every month and a half or so people forget how to do even basic driving things...
This is why dash cams are a necessity these days.
Your word against them but the video never lies.
I really should invest in one. I'm in the middle of a he said she said lawsuit over a car accident. Guy rear ended me and is trying to sue me.
Am 28, can confirm.. funny thing is. They are the people who mostly are older and have driver license way longer.
It doesn't help that getting your license is stupidly easy, at least in the US. They should make the tests much more rigorous and we wouldn't have as many problems.
Lots of these crashes aren't caused by distracted drivers on their phones or drunks or intentional assholes, they're caused by legitimately ignorant people who don't know they're doing something wrong.
38 and also can confirm. Drivers are worse than they've ever been. No one 'knows' the right-of-way, no one knows traffic light cycles, no one gives a flying fuck about anyone else on the road.
That could be because trucks have an absolute fuck ton of gears so when they slow down from like 60 to 40 that's like 3 or 4 gears they have to shift through. I'm not saying he is right but I understand why he is pissed.
He should get another job if he can't handle driving around people who obey traffic laws.
Maybe he was just having a bad day.
To be fair, driving for a living, esp. on side streets and in the city, has got to be nerve-wracking. But I think the worst offenders aren't couriers. Guys in work trucks (plumbers, electricians, etc.) seem to have a chip on their shoulders. Take it easy, fellas!
I did my math wrong and thought you were saying you started driving at 5 years old.
Well you really wouldn't be wrong lol because I probably was running the steering wheel on my father's lap when I was 5
Majority of drivers are idiots? Have you looked at society?
Oh yeah, I was getting honked at because I was stopped at a red light. Apparently, I'm supposed to start going in anticipation of a green now.
You're supposed to watch the opposing light and as soon as it hits yellow you're supposed to floor it before your light turns green /s
Cell phones are most of the problem. Everyone does everything but actually drive now.
That's because 20yrs ago you were one of those drivers that everyone swore at.
Ngl you're probably right
Not only that but she just throws her door open and steps out onto a busy highway without looking.
Sounds like a Grand Theft Auto NPC.
“I can’t believe you’ve done this”
I drive a bus and people do it to me all the time. Nobody behind me, I'm following other people in the right lane, but they must go past me, cut in front of me, then immediately go off their turn because being behind a bus is slow. One of them ended up trying to go down a full offramp. I was ready thankfully, brakes all going before she pulled her little shit. Added a bunch of airhorn to her ass too. She ended up stuck in the cross-check by the offramp and gave me the tiniest angry "honk" as I went past, my brakes hot and stinky.
Oi! You smooshed my sack of cheese and fingernails!
She straight up looked at him like "Why aren't you getting out of your truck and repairing my car right now with your bare hands howdareyoujustsittherelaughingyoumaniacyoucouldhavekilledmeandmyannoyingfuckingdogidriveeverywherewithmeyouheathen"
I was fully expecting the hands-thrown-in-the-air reaction. "What's wrong with you, why did you hit me?!?"
"What is this shit?"
"It's the prize you get for being stupid."
I know right, some People are just complete idiots sometimes and then when something bad happens they try to just put the blame on someone else, honestly, some people just baffle me 😂
I can't believe you've done this.
But she signalled, so that absolves her of slowing down her 1000lb car in front of a 5 ton battering ram.
Some people are so self involved. In her mind she had to take that exit and everyone else would just have to work around her.
The way she stood there and acted all like "Look what you have done" - she's still unaware it's her fault.
My actions have consequences?
No, surely this is the fault of someone else!
WHEN WILL YOU LEARN
high pitched screaming
screams in female
THAT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES
YOU FRICKIN' FRICKS!
Calm down Elliott
Calm down jus calm down!
YOUR THIRST WILL NEVER BE QUENCHED
NOT ON MY CHRISTIAN MINECRAFT SERVER!
It's funny when people make mistakes, except me. I'm too perfect to make any. I'm so perfect when I caught a glimpse of my back in the mirror, I got hard. Best want ever! #lovemyself
I actually grossed myself out making this joke.
Ah, the consequences of my own actions. We meet again.
Why would truck do this?!
I had a woman hit my car, and another woman's car in the parking lot of my old apartment. There were 2 cars in the parking lot, and about 50 open spots. she hit both cars (and the building).... When the cop showed up, she was busying blaming everything else she could, including the two parked cars. Not once did she take responsibility. She was legitimately getting upset with everyone else, including the cop, because nobody would take her side on the matter... It was honestly the most pathetic thing I've ever seen in my entire life. An adult could not accept the fact that she was at fault for this situation...
Narcissism... She's a stupid mistress
She was a wife. The husband showed up just shaking his head, because he's had 30 years of this shit.
He meant narcissism. As a metaphor.
I have been trying to convince my husband I need a dash cam. Because I've never been in or been witness to aaanything on the roads. Statistically speaking (based on nothing), it should be my time to shine any day now...
Edit: I live in New Zealand so cannot take advantage of the affordable options that have been suggested :( thank you though!
They're super affordable, I got mine on Amazon back in November for around $150 (Canadian) including memory chip. 1080p, I wired it into the accessory plug so it starts up when I start the car. A couple of months ago a very large semi cut me off and very nearly pinned me against the median. I used the footage to identify the company and trailer number and then called the company. The President of the company in turn called me and I shared the footage with him. They determined that it was because I was in a blind spot but that it was still the truckers fault and then decided to retrofit extra blind spot mirrors to their entire fleet as a result.
Now the road is safer. If I didn't have the footage, I would have just been some dude bitching, but now they use that footage in their training videos.
Honestly, dashcams should be standard features in every new car.
I'm in New Zealand so everything is brutally overpriced. But it's definitely something I will attempt to invest in one day. That's a really good result of your dash cam!
I wouldn't judge anyone on their initial reaction. I've been in two recent crashes that were the other person's fault and I think when the adrenaline is going and everyone is surprised the default reaction is to not blame yourself. Both those people came out trying to blame me initially but when the dust settled they admitted fault.
I’ve been on one car accident and the girl who ran the red light told me that I was the one who had ran it... she had me questioning myself even though I was positive that my light had turned green. Thankfully, a witness drove back around and confirmed that she had ran the light.
Back when I was a kid, my dad and I were in a severe car accident while making a left-hand turn. A vehicle across from us decided to make a left-hand turn (to travel opposite of us on the same road) but didn't know how to actually make a turn without using the whole fucking intersection, so they hit us hard. The part that pisses me off the most is I saw the truck come to a full stop, then punch it as soon as we were in the middle of the intersection.
Also, it was a light where one side of the street and their left turn lane goes at the same time, then the opposite, so the guy ran a left-turn-red. He immediately claimed my dad was the one who made the turn on red.
The flow of traffic was pretty obvious though. Ya know, since he pushed our vehicle into another vehicle headed straight from our side of the road. It took my dad two years to fight off the accusation of fault. The guy even tried to say I was "too young to know my colors yet." to try to get my statement thrown out. Bitches I was 5 and already reading at a 10-yr-old level. I was literally being held back in school to "my age group" because, in written statement, the school didn't want to dangerously expose me to age-based bullying.
I have permanent vision, spine, and hearing problems from that accident. The asshole only ended up having to give me $2k. IDK how much he owed my dad after but it wasn't enough to buy a new car of the type of car we had.
A sudden change or unexpected event can put a person on the defensive. What defines character is how they act when everyone calms down. If they even do.
Yet if she tries to claim that it was his fault she could get sued for insurance fraud, and I hope she does lol
This is when you yell... DASHCAM BITCH!!
She seemed so much more concerned about her little car than checking on the other driver or even pulling over safely. Everything about her reaction was selfish.
I can't believe you've done this!
She looks like woman version of James May..
The downvotes this has makes me think almost no one actually read the title of the video
Probably not, but I'm not taking it down.
The title didn't show up when I watched from RIF
Yes thank you
I miss Louis
I thought that it was going to be this one
I hope that person kills themselves in a crash that doesn’t affect anyone else.
Fuck me family guys is so on point
I had a girl act like a spoiled brat to me and then try and blame it on her period. I just explained to her that probably 30% of the women out in public right now are on their period and she's the only one acting like a spoiled brat and it might work on her parents but the general public doesn't give two shits about her time of month. She walked away thinking I was the asshole.
People like this tend to until a reality check hits them hard. I think jail or serious injury from someone not putting up with that shit might be what it takes. And I'm iffy on jail considering how bureaucratic it can be.
r/AITA will be the judge of that!
Wouln't tie it to one's sex tho
Plenty of male psychopaths out there as well. I've been in cars with several of them before. Disrespect for other drivers isn't a personality trait limited to any gender.
I bet she had teeth. Plenty of psychopaths with teeth out there.
milk drinkers FOR SURE
Don't forget those air-breathers!
Fucking food digesters!
That got gendered needlessly.
Considering a woman caused the accident in the video above I think the only one needlessly making a big deal about gender is you.
What the fuck is this stupid comment? Seriously...
His post history is an adventure.
Yea, totally, females, right? DAE women are irrational creatures and men are superior?
except i said none of that. but thanks for showing up and playing defense?
Found the incel.
At least he won't be procreating.
I call it the "I win" mentality. These idiots get some shot of self satisfaction by diving in front of traffic if there's even a slight opening. They think they're saving time, being more efficient, or showing the other driver that they're not fast enough, in their opinion, and are "punishing" the slower driver. The reality is they're just taking their aggressions out on strangers because they think there won't be any backlash. It's a small "I win" for them. Fuck these people.
Yeah, she could have convinced herself that the truck driver was an inconvenience for driving at a speed that prevented her "winning" her way into that lane. I'd love to have seen the argument that followed, which would have likely been her telling the truck driver he was driving too slow for her to go behind him but also for going too fast to avoid hitting her from behind.
I love it when people try this in a street near my apartment that explicitly has road markings denoting one lane only both sides because people park their cars on the kerbside. Impatient drivers see the ‘free lane’ to their left and swing in to ‘beat the line’.
I meet them less than 50 meters down the road with their right blinkers flashing. And this is a street frequented by many of the trucks plying the nearby port...
And then stopping in the middle of the goddamn lane for a fender bender. PULL OFF THE ROAD. The world doesn't stop because Princess had an accident.
Thats not her favorite thing though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08ITsgiL6v8
She had an important text to finish and noticed her exit late, cut her some slack!
Also that stretch of road has a 70mph limit. Assuming the truck is speed limited to 56mph but she overtook it, she’d never have made the turn without fucking it up.
Admittedly had she waited for the truck to go first she wouldn’t have been rear ended by it, but she’d probably still have spun out on that corner going that speed in the wet in her shitbox of a car.
Not only that, she could have waited literally one second, and just went to her exit behind truck.. but noooo... that less than a second out of her way was just too much to bear.
Thats how I envision it.. but ill give her the benefit of the doubt and assume there was a mile long trail of tailgating cars behind the truck, and she thought getting in front of it was her only out.
I hate people like her.
Her? You mean that's not James May?
James may doesn't overtake.
Updoots for all!
Captain Slowly can't overtake.
It's Captain Slow or Mr Slowly. You pillock.
That's not a Dacia Sandero.
That's bad news...
Hahaha do you think Captain Slow has ever overtaken anyone in his entire life?
Came here to say this. That flick of the head towards the truck at the end was uncanny.
Maybe it's his mum?
Wouldnt he be in a panda?
Or the newest ferrari
Or a Dacia Sandero
That's Karen May, his mum
gets hit from behind
Karen drivers are everywhere.
She strikes me as more of a Margaret for some reason.
Edit: skipped a word.
Margaret is for 65+
Karen is for middle aged
I have a lot of family members like her. They are number 1 all the time and are never wrong. I'm sure even after presented with the evidence of her fault she will still be adamant that she did absolutely nothing wrong. I don't know if it's called narcissism or what but .. fuck these people
It annoys me a little when people turn in front of you, but don't go a little faster to create room. I think if someone doesn't do this then you end up slowing down.
Eh, some hot water and a plunger will pop that right out.
Well that’s her face sorted but what about the car?
Same thing, but less work.
Yeah, with the car you don't need a ten foot pole attached to the plunger.
second gold in thread
Gonna need some burn heal for that.
loved that boost of speed
Thank u 😊❤️ to l
it was the best of boops, it was the worst of boops
The look of a stupid person is priceless.
Thats totally a look of "look what you made me do!" ugh, go away Karen
Had a guy merge on to a three lane highway. I was in the center lane and he kept his turn signal on as he got in to the left lane. I hate that because then I can't tell if you forgot to turn off your signal or you are actually planning on changing lanes. Anyway, I didn't think he would be jump into the center lane or fast lane right after merging. At one point I felt like he was slowly veering into my lane. A few moments later he got into the center lane and as he passed me in the fast lane, he flipped me off. What the fuck? Was I supposed to pull over on to the shoulder just because Mr. Important is driving on the highway here? Fuck that douchebag.
Yesterday I was in the fast lane when someone cut me off suddenly. I was a little annoyed but I decided to let it go. Then the person slows down and I see vapor smoke coming from their car. I’m like okay it’s one thing to cut me off but now you’re just gonna take it easy and enjoy a puff while you slow down? So I speed up to pass him on the right but of course he speeds up too now. I pass him and cut him off without a blinker just like he did me.
End of story? Nope. He caught up with me and cursed at me to pull over because he was going to kick my ass. Told me not to fucking cut him off. His eyes were bulging out of his head. I literally laughed and waved at him while mouthing “you okay?” (He rolled his window down but I did not). I saw him laughing as he took the next exit but I think it was more of a self-satisfied “yeah I showed him” type of laugh.
Some people man.
Me and my girlfriend at the time were driving on the highway in the right lane sitting on cruise control going about 5 above the speed limit. A bunch of teenagers in this big truck come up behind us and start riding my ass, there's no other traffic so I'm expecting them to just go around. They flash their lights at me and then pass us and flip us off. Like they wanted *me* to merge into the fast lane to get out of their way.
"How could you stop at a red light and let me hit you doing 80!?"
The surprised Pikachu look
Out of curiosity, who would legally be at fault in the instance?
Obviously the semi driver was cut off and had no way of slowing down in time. However, it is my understanding that being hit from behind is pretty cut and dry regarding fault.
Unless there was video evidence such as this
This makes me want to get a dashcam now.
You can get one for under $50 on Amazon. Potentially can save you thousands. Worthy investment.
Is there one that doesn't fall off the windshield every 3 days?
Don't mount anything to your windshield. Get a screw base and mount the camera on the dash.
Why not? My cam is mounted just behind the mirror if looked from drivers position. It is attached to the windows with it's own mount that has excellent adhesive on it.
Also it's good idea to mount is high to get best visibility out of the car. Drilling around the roof is a bad idea.
IKR? Just get the cam you like, and if its a window mount, just put better tape on it... It also helps if you clean the glass with alcohol instead of "glass cleaner" before applying. (ammonia weakens adhesives)
Is there one you recommend?
There's a subreddit for everything. Go there for advice from the community instead of just one guy.
This is the dash cam I have. It has stayed on my windshield for the 3 months I have owned it with no problems.
I got YI dashcam. It came with some marvelous 3M adhesive on the mount and is good as glued in place.
I use a mirror mount that's compatible with almost all brands of dash cam.
And can potentially get you tons of karma from catching good stuff! Saving thousands could also be a decent benefit I guess.
I've taken to putting my phone on it's holder recording. If nothing happens, I delete.
I have a windshield mount for my phone so I can use the gps. It doubles as an excellent dashcam.
Are there ones that can handle extreme heat and cold? I live in New England where in the summer it can get to be 100° F (and probably 120+ ° F inside the car itself) and in the winter it's not unheard of for the temp to dip below -5° F.
Do it. I've had one for a couple of years. Have not had a reason but it does help with peace of mind.
I'm secretly hoping I catch a shooting star on mine one day!
Much more exciting to see than an accident.
Or something crazy like those videos you see out of Russia/wherever. Random beams of light going up to the sky, unidentified aircraft, other people crashing, meteors, emergency plane landings, etc.
Russia isn't real...
That's probably true.
You mean you don’t have one u/taytoman? I would not expect this from a person such of your calibre
The Tayto Mascot hangs his head in shame.
He didn't speed up, his speed is displayed on the bottom of the gif but it's on a delay of a second or two, so you can't really use it to see when exactly he slowed down. The reason it looks like he sped up is simply that the white car slows down, nothing more.
Yup you are right... Weird that the video looks to me like they sped up even when looking to the side (to avoid being biased by the white car).
The speed on the bottom is quite definitive though.
What with the fisheye lens and what looks to be a let off in speed to make the exit, that's understandable. It looks like she was trying to make that exit and not take the turn too fast, making it seem like the perspective vehicle is speeding up.
The reason was to make the left turn. She sped up to get in front of the truck instead of slowing down to get behind and safely make the turn.
This kills me. I NEED THAT HALF SECOND!
She’s the type of person to microwave a poptart instead of toasting it.
She’s the type of person to microwave a poptart instead of toasting it.
Excuse me sir, ill have you know that a microwaved strawberry poptart is a fucking southern delicacy in my trailer park and you need to pay some respect!
I actually prefer to microwave the chocolate and smores ones because I like them to be gooey and the breading to be soft. I'm a weirdo, though. I like my pizzas undercooked and smooshy, and according to my husband, that makes me literally satan.
Just when I think the depravity of man has finally reached rock bottom.... who the fuck microwaves a poptart!?
I just eat them raw still in the wrapper, double decker style. It's a nyc delicacy
See at least with that you're wrong but still human.
People living in college dorms who are forbidden to have toasters
Same person that digs straight down in minecraft
There are people that microwave poptarts? Which circle of hell is reserved for them?
I know someone who put a fucking pot noodle on the microwave without any water in it as wondered why it came out fucked.
I said "It's got the instructions on the side, in three easy steps. Only a few words in each step. And how have you never made a Pot Noodle before? You're 23".
To which his reply was "I never read the instructions on anything".
Give me fucking strength.
I have people do this all day long. They'll either speed up to get in front of me then brake and slow both of us down, or my favorite they speed up, cut me off, and get in the lane next to me which was completely empty in the first place. They could have gone behind me to get into the lane.
Why are people the way they are?
The funny thing is I live near where this video was taken, she could've carried on about 20 seconds down the road and gone around a roundabout there, 30 seconds back and under the bridge max and she would be on that road.
So she endangered her grandchild and got the back of her car pushed in to save a minute tops.
Semis terrify me, how is anyone this ballsy around a vehicle that dwarfs your own?
If you didn't have this video, how would you proceed? Is it just their statement vs the other persons? Assuming there were no witnesses how do you make a decision like that?
Yeah that’s where it gets kinda screwy haha
Based on the points of impact it does seem like a rear end accident. But personally I’d ask clarifying questions like:
Which lane were you in?
How long after changing lanes did the impact occur?
Where were you going at the time?
Where were you looking just prior to the impact?
When did you notice the other vehicle?
Then after doing that for both parties It’d probably end up “word vs word” the driver of the other vehicle would have to handle damages to their vehicle under their own policy. The other driver would probably have to file under their own policy as well since the other insurance company is more than likely going to come to the same decision.
At least when there’s no video.
At least it's reassuring you do some more digging, though unlikely both parties would give you the same answer. Thank god for dash cams!
I got rear-ended on the freeway in stop and go traffic. I was so confused when the insurance person asked me "How long were you in the lane for?"
I was like... "Oh man, I don't know the answer to that?? Who keeps track of that? If I had to guess I'd say 15 minutes?"
They seemed happy with the answer and it was only waaaay later I learned they were just asking that to see if I cut someone off.
Slamming on the brakes on a wet road in a truck can be catastrophic. The possibilities of a much worse outcome can be higher in that situation.
You shouldn't be slowing down either in case someone is behind you in your lane. She fucked up and couldn't make that exit and should have waited for the next one not slowed down
My wife was in this situation where she was in the same position as the truck driver.
No video evidence = my wife was found at fault
We have dashcams now.
I will never own a car without installing a dash cam anymore. We've turned into Russia.
It kind if depends on if the driver in front is a decent human being, or not. My wife was also in a similar situation, but the driver who cut her off admitted it was her fault to her insurance company, so everything turned out okay.
Did she call the cops? I had a similar situation and the other driver didn't want to admit his fault so I called the cops. Once they arrived and asked for our versions, they checked how our cars were and the break marks on the street it was clear to them the other guy cut in front of me and it was his fault.
Lucky you, the insurances and courts in germany don't accept dashcam footage as evidence. :(
Edit: forgot location, duh
Being hit from behind is usually indicative of an inattentive driver or one following too close. Here that is clearly not the case. There's nothing magic about the laws and being hit from behind, though, so the video evidence here would mean it isn't a "he said, she said" case.
If you stop much slower than those around you, a dash cam is needed. Otherwise driver at fault can accuse truck of just following too close.
Here in Ireland if you hit someone from the rear you are responsible for the action, unless you have video evidence like that. They say you're supposed to give sufficient space to brake and pay due care and attention, but its a dumb law when shit like that happens.
It's the default position in the UK as well, the basis being that you should always leave enough distance to stop, regardless of the idiocy of the driver in front. Obviously cutting in negates that - the issue then is getting evidence that it happened.
I was wondering about the speed limit there, the road is marked "slow" repeatedly but the video shows 50mph?
The white sign with the black line across means "national speed limits apply" which in the case of a dual carriageway like this means 70mph for the car, 60 for the truck. In reality 50 would be slow on a road like that even with the rain
However, it is my understanding that being hit from behind is pretty cut and dry regarding fault.
However, it is my understanding that being hit from behind is pretty cut and dry regarding fault.
That is an urban myth. In the vast majority of cases, the person in back is assumed to be at fault, but any evidence that calls it into question (including testimonial of the driver in behind, especially when the driver in front is an idiot and admits to the cops that they cut in too close) can potentially sway the deciding factor and drag out the investigation/assessment.
However, there is a difference between insurance and law, and each group can operate independently of the other (in other words, even if the other person is at fault in court, you could still be paying out the insurance depending on insurance policies between the two companies. Hence, get a good insurance company). Many cases like this remain as insurance cases without also turning into legal cases.
I was cycling home yesterday evening and a car passed me way too close then just cut in front of me so they could park on the side.
It made me so angry. Cutting me off to park rather than slow down and wait maybe 2 more seconds for me to pass the empty parking spot.
I actually think it's a lack of object permanence. Like, these people literally don't perceive anything that's not in front of them. Once they pass you, you don't exist to them so the road must be clear. The concept of slowing down and waiting for the lane to be clear requires the concept that there is an entire world that exists right behind them.
Well said. I think there is also a similar mentality where instead of ignoring reality they make one up in which they don't want to "lose" to other cars on the road. That causes people to leave zero space between each other on the freeway/highway, preventing efficient merging and lane changing. They are so worried that someone will get in front of them and they will "lose" whatever race they think they are in.
This isn't helped by the fact that if you do leave a space, these type of people interpret it as "too slow" and immediately speed around to fill it in.
Must get in front
Must get in front
Somene did this to me at a turnpike gas station. Passed me in the plaza to steal my pump, nearly caused an accident.
Then, for some reason, her pump wouldn't turn on. The guy in the booth saw what was up and was having a good laugh for a few minutes there. Wouldn't turn her pump on until she chilled out.
Booth guy is a damn hero and a saint.
It's how the professionals do it, they'll add time to your pit stop.
Real talk, fuck that mentality. Three times I've almost been run over.
First was by someone speeding towards a closed lane so they could pass me, but they seem to have forgotten the fact that they had a trailer. I was seething at the same red light as them for the next minute.
Second was someone who sped up, passed me by 10 feet, slowed down to go over a speed bump, then merged without a signal not realizing slowing down means I catch up.
Third was the same thing same spot different day, but they didn't bothered signalling once they were a foot in my lane.
I'm the only person I know that regularly undertakes, it's such a basic skill.
It's illegal where I am.
I also undertake. Have you noticed that it confuses the hell out of people sometimes? Like, they can't even comprehend what I'm doing.
They give licenses out to anybody now. Driving is a goddamn privilege ffs. You are driving a 2 thousand kg metal death machine that could kill me if your not careful.
Gona be real honest with you, most people view driving as a right more than a privilege now.
I can't think of literally anyone I know that has been failed for a driving test. The public outrage that would insue if we actually started setting real standards for having a drivers license would be on an absurd level.
People do this shit all the time to me while I'm hauling close to 60t in a double. Bunch of cars in front of me, empty road behind, me doing exactly the same speed as the cars ahead yet some wanker thinks that cutting over 2 lanes while squeezing into my safety zone then taking the offramp at the last second all in one go is the best way to drive. Must've saved so much fucking time versus simply getting behind me and taking your exit.
Seriously, I've had people cut in front of me when there was barely any room, even though there wasn't another vehicle behind me for a mile. It's like they think if they're last in line they're a loser or something. Idiots.
Need to know what's next !
Nothing really added by that.
"Adam explained in the Facebook comments that the woman had her grandchild in the car."
Which makes her look even worse imo.
Based on the speed of her exiting the car, her priority was inspect her car before the child's wellbeing.
No more visits to grandma if that was my child. I'm so glad grandparents rights aren't a thing in my state.
What are grandparents rights? This the first time I've heard that term.
Baby's First Whiplash.
Yeah cuz it’s by the Sun
Confirmed it is not James May at least.
Knowing that the truck was fully loaded makes it even more obvious that the driver had no way to stop in the time he had. Some trucks, especially modern vehicles, can stop very quickly in an emergency but it depends what they're carrying. 27 tons of potatoes isn't stopping in 2 seconds.
I thought the article was calling the truck driver a potatoe at first, I thought that's a bit harsh. And then I realised.
There's no 'e' on the end of potato, Dan Quayle.
You are correct. Didn't Quayle add the e? I'm not sure why I did above, brain fart. Can't change it now, I'm going to stick by it.
There is now, Murphy Brown.
No - the truck is actually made of potato
Adam says there was a child in the vehicle as well as the driver's mother, who, he claims, wanted to fight him.

Fuck the Sun.
Don't link The S*n.
This is a bad article that just lists a bunch of social media quotes.
Lancashire Police told the Sun Online they are not currently investigating.

Thanks, The Sun.
Downvoted cause it’s a *** article sorry
Just gave her a tap tap taperoo.
It's time to go home, there, ball
DON'T YOU WANT TO GO TO YOUR HOME???
Taaaaaahppy tap tap !
Wow, the styling of that car subtly changed from convex hatch to concave hatch.
I used to have hot wheels or matchbox cars that did this.
https://www.youtube.com/user/baremetalHW does matchbox restorations if you want a trip through memory lane.
So I assume she was wanting to turn left in which case I'd have just slowed up to get in behind the truck. It's the only reason I can think why she'd have slowed down after getting in front of the truck...
I would have just taken the turn at 65 mph and screamed "Leroyyyyyyy Jenkinssss!!!!"
God dammit Leeroy
At least I got chicken.
That was a good one. I like it.
The lady is at fault and hopefully the dashcam evidence will save this truck driver from liability. This is the A59 junction with Chapel Lane just south of Penwortham, I use it fairly regularly. It is a 70mph speed limit along there. There are turnoff signposts and clear 'Slow' signs painted in the carriageway well before the junction. The truck was travelling well below the limit at 48 mph. She broke Rule 182 of the Highway Code', "Use your mirrors and give a left-turn signal well before you turn left. Do not overtake just before you turn left". She should have been in the left lane, signalling, and slowing down about 300 metres back. Arguably she could be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention or reasonable consideration.
I see a lot of people on this thread who like to cut in front of trucks.
Honestly the fact some of them are trying to justify and make the woman not at fault are hilarious.
My grandpa drives long haul. He deals with idiots cutting in front of him all the time. Luckily he hasn't hit anyone yet, but the amount of times of him getting cut off a week is insane and fucking scary honestly.
Stop cutting off trucks people.
Right! Seems like simple self preservation would kick in and cutting front of trucks and hitting the brakes would seem like a terrible idea! I just don't get how this hasn't occurred to these people yet!
Yeah you'd think it would be common sense!
Going to make sure Grandpa has a dash cam now that I'm thinking about it though so he at least has video footage if something DOES happen. If not I'll get him one.
Aggressive, self entitled people always think they're the best drivers. Funny how that is.
Is this Captain Slow?
Yeah, the lane had his name written over it.
Is that James May???
I’m sure all agree this is an inexcusable move by the lady in the car and she’s at fault. But the truck driver also appears to have missed the opportunity to slow down slightly out of precaution after first seeing her signal then secondly her actual merge? He appears to speed up through the event rather than being conservative and trying to create more buffer space as a result of the dick move. Even if collision were inevitable, he could have made more effort to avert it.
It's clearly the woman's fault. You don't pull in front of a truck and then immediately slam on the brakes to exit the road. However, you're right... the truck driver doesn't slow down one iota, either when she signals, when she cuts in front of him, or when she hits the brakes. Perhaps he still would have hit her, but it would have been a less severe impact if he had hit the brakes at some point.
He appears to speed up
He appears to speed up
That's an illusion caused by the white car braking. If you watch the trees going by I would just say that the truck goes constant speed.
I agree that the truck driver could have slowed down sooner to help avoid an accident or reduce the damage.
If you look at the speedometer at the bottom of the camera he actually speeds up.
Oh thanks, I didn't realize that was there. I was just trying to eyeball it.
He goes from 48 before to 50 by the merge. That wasnt intentional.
In the U.S.
In the U.S.
Just a quick FYI
I think that fault laws might vary by state.
Also I think that they might not be in the U.S. as they appear to be driving on the left side.
I do agree with what you've said and obviously it's all on camera. But there is the possibility that all that is easy to see in the video wasn't what the driver was seeing in those moments. What's clear as day on the camera isn't exactly the drivers point of view. It's the cameras view point not the truck drivers.
Great point, totally agree. Might have been very loud, could have not seen the small cars signal, momentary distractions etc.
The trucks speed is within 3 mph the entire time.
Respectfully, If you actually think the truck can stop safely that fast you've never driven a truck. There gearing and braking are different than a normal car. The weight moving at speed makes braking quickly dangerous.
Depending on the trailer load, even slamming on the breaks even at first sight of her move he might drop to 40-45 by impact. That risks losing control and load and the trailer going into the next lane. If the giant blue truck that passes it might not be able to avoid that collision and this gets very ugly.
Pretty skillful driving imo. The trucks safe out is the shoulder and unfortunately the white car making a left takes that away.
Well that took an unexpected lack of turn.
What a fucking twat waffle.
She pulls that shit, and then shoots him that WTF look. Learn to drive, bitch.
“Fucking twat waffle” lol
The look on her face.. She has no idea what just happened.
Fuck some people are dumb.
Pretty sure she wanted to exit at that junction. Daft bint.
Did her three brain cells really decide that slamming on her brakes after cutting off a truck was a good idea?
If she took him to court I would be surprised cause we can all see it’s her fault
Missed her exit after all
Who tf cuts in front of someone and then slows down?!
All. The. Time. Source. I drive a truck and trailer often. Not a semi, but big enough to make it hard to stop as fast as those little shoeboxes on wheels
You’re on camera lady... think yourself lucky, dipstick!
Looked liked James May at first glance: Oh Bugger!
“That’s your fault” -stupid dumb bitch
Why'd that guy get out of the passenger seat?
More like "what could go left?"
She looks like Sloths mom from Goonies.
James May’s latest car test hasn’t gone well.
We should just be glad that Hammond wasn't driving it. It would have been flipped over and on fire.
This happens so much. We drive our 35' motorhome and tow our car behind it. So minimum 24-25k lbs hurdling down the freeway. And no way in hell were stopping in less than 200 ft.
It's amazing to me how many ppl think that the space we keep between our RV and the vehicle in front of us is for THEM to squeeze into. Not a second goes by while driving that I don't worry about the moment someone is about to have an intimate encounter with our steel frame using the back of their head.
What a stupid selfish c**t.
Unless I'm missing something, the truck driver appears to be completely at fault, even though the car driver is a jerk. I come from a city with heavy traffic and this is hardly considered as "cutting off". Also yes, truck drivers need more distance but the lady already merged and the truck driver made no attempt to slow down. He hit her from behind and even with this video footage, insurance here will determine he is at fault.
Well that took an unexpected turn.
James May looks pissed!
Is that James May in drag?
Is that James May. FTFY
So she got in front of the guy then slowed down?
I love how she stands there like a dumb twat, "what happened?"
James May: a bit underpowered. But, a surprising bit of power on understeer though.
James May: a bit underpowered. But, a surprising bit of power on understeer though.
For a second I thought it was James May that came out of the car.
Truck driver here, can confirm people do this all the time. They will pass me just to turn 2 seconds after.
Free speed boost!
Some people say the truck driver is still sitting there...looking at the woman with a disgusted look on his face.
Do people not understand even an inkling of physics? Trucks are huge and heavy, they can't slow down at the rate of a car.
james may does not look happy
Am I the only one who thinks the truck had enough of time to slow down?
Edit: changed the word plenty to enough.
No, he did, however the person trying to merge slowed down too much while merging that's their own damn fault for trying to overtake to grab their turning.
Edit: how do you guys expect a 27 tonne lorry to slow down that quickly....
No doubt the car is a dick. It just seemed like the truck didn’t make any attempt to avoid the crash. Gotta be defensive out there, and expect idiots like the white car to make last second merges.
White car at least had their blinker on, and the road was telling the truck to “SLOW” down.
It's a lorry with 27 tonnes of cargo, it's not exactly going to slow down quickly, especially when it's raining and the road is wet.
The merge itself wasn't the issue despite it being an absolutely dangerous manoeuvre, it was the woman hammering on the breaks out of nowhere that caused the accident and it isn't really something you'd expect a competent driver to do in front of a lorry.
That's not what those road signs mean, and it's a 70mph speed limit the lorry is doing 50mph.
This is why my dad stopped driving truck. Someone did this to him and he almost killed her. It take a LOT of room to stop a truck.
Both of them are at fault, the truck didn't slow down at all even though she was braking the whole time, as a matter of fact the truck actually sped up.
Shot her off to the next dimension
Just a little bump to boost up their speed is all.
Truck drivers are supposed to leave a 100 foot buffer in front of them because it takes several times the distance for them to stop than a passenger car.
I see people violating that bubble every day just like the woman in the video.
People need to realize that gap is there for a reason. If you move into it, you are putting yourself in real danger. And definitely don't hit your brakes if you do find yourself in that zone.
At the end she looks like James May
