I was once in Sears and someone around my age was approaching me and waving and saying my name. Oh fuck who are they!?

I wave back and pretend to recognize the girl. She gives me a weird look.

Turns out someone was walking right behind me who also had my name. Still think about it.

This got me in trouble once, because it turned into a loop. She waved at someone behind me while walking towards me, and I just sort of blandly smiled, unsure of what was happening. Because I smiled, she said, "Hi, how are you?" I said, "Pretty good, how about you?" She said, "I'm fine." The kid I was watching asked how we knew each other. She glanced behind me at her friend and then kind of laughed awkwardly and said, "We don't, but I guess we just met," and walked around me to go to the person she ACTUALLY knew. It wasn't horrible, but man, it still haunts me.

I find it weird how Americans use "How are you" as a greeting equivalent to a "hi" with random strangers. Like most don't even listen to what you reply afterwards, might as well just say hi.

Not a Chinese speaker, but I've been told in Chinese, "hello" is literally, "you're good?" but more as a statement. So people just go around pronouncing each other as fine. At least it's more economical than "how are you, I'm fine, how are you, I'm fine too thanks for asking."

MsMagey

I know! I hate it. It's impolite to say anything less than good, but like, sometimes I'm not doing great, okay? Leave me alone or commit to listening to me bitch about it, random stranger! It's the weirdest little ritual.

A few months ago I was eating at a restaurant and a group of girls walked in. I noticed one of them looked like a friend of mine and I knew she was going out to eat around the same time I was so I thought it was her. I called them out like, "Hey! HEY! What's up?" and then the whole restaurant turned to look as I realized I didn't know any of the girls and awkwardly mumbled that I had mistaken them for someone else... ugh

I had to give a presentation once in public and we had to introduce our teacher by their first and last name. I thought her name was Barbara. Definitely was not Barbara and she hated me for the rest of high school because I apparently shamed our school at a public function. She got revenge at graduation by announcing me with the other hope scholarship recipients when I had received life. She said it was an honest mistake...but I knew...I knew.

Oddly enough, I still can’t recall her first name.

I went to a music camp at the college I was accepted to the summer between graduation and starting college. When I walked in the main auditorium, who should I spot but a girl I went to several music competitions with who lived several hours away!

I ran up to her and gave her a big, huge hug. She squeezed me back. When I pulled back, I noticed something. This wasn't Rachel from Johnson City.

Me: "OH MY GOD, I'M SORRY, I DON'T KNOW YOU!"

Her: "I don't know you either, but my name's Katie! Glad to meet you!"

Katie became a good friend of mine.

Sometimes I don't understand why people won't tell you it isn't you they're talking to. Like this one time on the road, some random dude yells at me to pick something up and I'm like "dude that isn't mine". He continues talking about how bad society is blah blah while looking right at me. So I go to pick it up to get away from the situation before another lady steps forward. Turns out she was behind me and he was talking to her. But didn't even bother dismissing me standing there claiming my innocence. I was so pissed.

Back before everyone and their grandma had gotten into the pink hair phase, one if my friends had gotten a single pink highlight in her hair. At the time, I thought it was pretty unique, especially in my small hometown area.

I saw her sitting in a chair at our university's dining hall/study area. I was about to get in line but she was sitting near the counter at a table, studying. So I sneak up behind her and kick the leg of her chair and say something along the lines of, "what's up doofud", just to get a good jump out of her. It worked. She jumped a mile and whirled around to see who suddenly kicked her chair with a shocked look on her face.

But it was I who must have had the bigger shock, as the girl whose chair I kicked did not have the face of my friend to match the hair. I had never seen her before in my life and she looked like she was about to cry. Little did she know it was I who was crying on the inside.

I apologized profusely and tried to explain but possibly failed to explain accurately through my sudden stutter. I then noped over to the counter and ordered my meal in shame.

I know someone who Facebook posted someone else’s engagement before the couple did. Did a whole “Let me be the first to congratulate.....” even though he knew they didn’t publicly announce it yet, and he didn’t ask permission to post it (he helped set up popping the question, which is how he knew)

My wife had an emergency c-section after we were both awake for almost 24 hours, I sent the in-laws and my mother a photo from our room and said we were all going to rest before they could come meet the baby. I woke up to my mom having posted it to Facebook my wife hadn’t even held the baby yet because she was in such bad shape.

AlexaBlissBooty

Fuck that. The craving for social media validation is so bad.

Marawal

A friend's girlfriend actually planned the "social media" reveals of the baby birth. They told close friends and family that they wanted to share it on Facebook themselves first. And let the grandmothers to be the first one to share it, to alert extended family and family friends of both side. In doing so, they got to be the one to truly share it, and the grammas the excitement to announce it to the people.

The new mom's sister posted that she was a aunt, and how excited she was to spoil her new niece, as soon as my friend texted the news to the family.

With our two younger kids, we didn't even tell anyone until we were ready to announce it publicly, other than my brother and sister and dad, because we know they can keep their mouths shut. My mom can too, but she got annoying real fast constantly asking if she can tell people yet, with the first child, so she got put on the later list for the next two. My wife's family we can't trust at all to not gossip.

Similar story, after my dad passed away from leukemia in February, it was in the middle of the night so we didn't notify anyone so we could get some sleep the next day. Oh God this happened to me too. My father also died in the middle of the night and someone else - my sister’s old uni friend - posted her condolences on Facebook tagging us, essentially breaking the news to everyone in our friendlists. I was livid and asked her to take down the post to respect our privacy.

jrnewman96

The nerve of some people. That is also what caused me to stay away from social media. Why not text the person first giving your condolences. Why is it a race to post on social media?

Eagleassassin3

That's how I learned my grandpa died... one of his nephews who doesn't even live in the same city posted it on facebook. My family hadn't even told us yet. Actually that's how my sister learned it scrolling through Facebook and she started crying and showed it to me. It's so fucking annoying how some people care so much about getting the spotlight even if it's about someone they actually care about. I had some distant relatives who posted pics on facebook one day of them praying while at the cemetery. Like why the hell do you need to post that?

bob88jrthe3rd03
3

Same thing happened with my dad. We only told 2 extended family members and trusted them to tell our extended family (by phone and text), but we chose to wait to post anything on Facebook until we had funeral plans. Everyone was pretty respectful of that and we had a day or two or quiet mourning. But then I hear from an aunt that a cousin’s ex-boyfriend posted his condolences online while tagging my dad. We were too tired to be really mad, but turns out the wrath of my extended family made him take it down since it was clear that I was going to post it when we were ready.

Man you really think it's that much more likely that this person was trying to be malicious than that they simply lacked the social intelligence to know that they weren't the main focus of the returning girl? I'm not saying you're wrong, but that's quite the assumption to make imo

If the latter was true I certainly think she's deserving of a little empathy in this situation

jizzabeth
41

Being inconsiderate isn't inherently malicious.

I didn't say they where thinking "wow I can't wait to steal the attention here let me jump in"

Just that often times people lack the social awareness to not wedge themselves into situations like this and accepting the behaviour on a disingenuous premise is really just stifling future embarrassing moments. Like coddling people and being fake is honestly worse.

Even if they don't realize past embarrassing moments like this that doesn't make it malicious. I would honestly say it's more malicious to pander to people lacking social intelligence.

She's looking forward.

This is clearly a surprise. And the girl jets out of the seats to get the hug. She clearly knows the woman well enough.

The woman walking in is walking straight towards the stage. While it's clear she was going to one person, there's no reason she can't hug other people too.

I'm with you. No eye contact man. And she made a B-line for the running girl. I want to speculate that this was someone who was trying to be funny and get between a moment. Or this is someone very bad at social cues. Or perhaps she knew the girl was going to hug someone else but also missed her and thought it was ok to hug her first anyway. Maybe that's what it was.. Yo, can we upvote this more? With sound, it's even worse for the girl who just runs out of nowhere trying to steal a hug from two people clearly wanting to embrace.

I don't know how you can defend that lol.

Think of it this way: you spot an old friend, get emotional and see that she's just as emotional to see you, both of you start walking toward each other for a hug, but just before some rando butts in and reaches in for an embrace. Like, from out of nowhere, just pops in your line of sight last second..

You really not gonna flinch away and try to avoid that person who obviously lacks any social cues whatsoever?

gizzardgullet
4

Based on everything I've read in this post, I don't think we have enough info. It very well could be one of those situations where the entering girl was a close friends with the running girl but only as a "backup" when the stage girl was not around. I've known people like that - they treat a certain person nice until their "real" friend arrives and then flip on them. I have a pre-teen daughter and lots of sister in laws, I've seen some shit.

I've also known people who will not take "no" for an answer and feel like they are owed friendship even when the other person shows no interests in a friendship. I just don't think we can tell what the case was in this video.

Yes why do we have to assume that she's intentionally ruining a moment? she seems to have no idea it was meant for the girl coming from the stage.

Nathan_MacKinnon
10

I mean considering the blonde girl at no point looked in her direction, continued running down the aisle directly to the person who had to jump off the stage to come hug her.... the other girl had to exit her row to try and steal the hug. She knew it wasn’t for her, she was just being an attention whore.

Prompus
4

She might have but she was still interrupting a special moment so it is what it is. The girl came in clapping for her friend on stage, then when they made eye contact she put her arms out for a hug and they started running towards each other with no breaking of eye contact. And she had someone filming behind her. Pretty obvious what was going on. If she stopped to hug the other girl it would be a huge anticlimax and ruin their special moment. Also the way the second girl came bounding out was like she was trying to catch her because she knew she would go past.

Damp paper towel is the way to go, it helps keep the heat in and prevents stuff from getting that crispy-nuke flavor.

TMLoke

I think what it does is help retain the water molecules in the food, since all microwave ovens do is agitate those. That crispy-nuke flavor is the result of evaporation, which the damp paper towel helps to prevent.

I do 1 minute 50 seconds and it's always perfect. Just hot enough it's hot throughout and less likely to explode open. I guess it does depend a bit if you're buying lean pockets or not though. The crust does make a difference in cook time. Also, microwave variation can easily account for tens of seconds of cook time difference.

I've had success by following the directions, but you have to let it sit for at least ~5 minutes before taking it out of the microwave after it finishes. The super hot bits gradually heat up the icy bits and the heat transfer relaxes the molten parts enough that it roughly evens out.

If you take them out of the microwave and let them sit it doesn't work the same.

Might be different for only 1 hot pocket, I always cook them both at the same time.

Because a lot of "secondary" friends don't realize that that's what they are. They just assume they are regular friends because why wouldn't you. Usually it takes something like this for that person to realize that you are not on the same level of friendship as other people. The worst is when someone knows theyre a secondary friend but have no true friends so they stay in the circle that they have because they don't have anyone else.

Someone above mentioned that they have kids that have secondary friends and someone mentioned how kids can be cruel. Kids my ass, I'm in my late 30s and see this to this day.

This is also predominately a woman thing from my experience. So how does the secondary friend happen? From what I've seen it's mostly a woman thing and starts when girls start developing groups of friends in packs. And it carries all the way over into adulthood. The mentality of having as many friends as possible never seems to go away for people and these so-called secondary friends get pulled into the group. A lot of these SF's don't have a lot of friends many times also so they are more than happy to fall into a group of "friends" just to be a part of something.

The cracks of being a secondary friend show pretty early in from what I've seen. All the girls want to go to the mall or a movie but they leave out that one friend, who's not really a friend right? Just a secondary friend. No need to invite them. A lot of girls figure out pretty quickly that they are in the secondary category, but they can't bring themselves to break away because they still get invited to things, so they just overlook that they're overlooked sometimes. and it never ends. It goes right into adulthood with these women even if they've known each other for 25 years they are still the secondary friend of the group. They're not invited to weddings. They're not invited to social parties. They're not invited out with the girls on a regular basis. Because their secondary friends.

Some women as they get older figure it out and stop talking to these people. Others continue to follow the status quo cuz because they never really learned how to make friends outside of that group. How much somebody is saying about this post it looks like the two girls that hug are really good friends in the other girl is the secondary friend and the girl in white is visiting her friend from college.

What I'm going to guess is that the girl in the white doesn't go to the same college as these two girls and they both know her really really well except the girl rushing to her from the seat is the secondary friend and probably hasn't seen her in a long time also, and got excited about seeing her only to realize she really wasn't that important to the girl in white. you only hope something like this as an eye-opener to that person and they realize that this is someone who's not going to be their friend in the future.but it's tough for people I know a ton of women that are still friends with the people that grew up with from high school and we're always known as the secondary friend they just deal with it. It's sad actually.

It’s because they think women wear clothes to look good for them, instead of wearing clothes to be comfortable and because they like the way the clothes look themselves...

Why TF would I care what some random dude on reddit thinks about my high waisted jeans? If I like them and the friends I’d trust to tell me if something looked bad like them (they have saved me from some bad fashion), then I’m good.

And honestly? My butt looks bomb in mine, and my boyfriend agrees so 🤷‍♀️

Laureltess
6

Haha, I thought I’d get that. My point is that I dress for me first and foremost, but that I’ll ask my best friend if a thing looks okay objectively, because I know she’ll tell me the truth! Sometimes you’re unsure if a thing fits your body, or works for you specifically, which is why I’d ask my best friend if this things works for me or if I’m crazy. I have a hard-to-dress body type that she shares with me, (big boobs, small waist, wide hips- my waist is 12” smaller than my bust measurement and 10” smaller than my hips- it’s super hard to find clothes that fit, especially with the current trend of flowy loose stuff that makes me look like a box) Obviously that would only be for stuff I don’t normally wear or am trying to get into wearing. But I don’t care if a bunch of dudes on reddit don’t like the overarching idea of woman wearing high-waisted pants, because I like them and I know they look good on me!

Edit: tldr- I value the opinions of the people closest to me because I trust them and their judgement. I don’t value the opinion of some random dude on the internet that much.

Rakosman
5

Why do you think because they said it doesn't look good that it means that are upset? I get that tone is hard to tell on the internet, but if people just assume the negative side of things that is on them. Saying he doesn't think it looks good is completely fine, its his opinion and it doesn't make him upset about it.

Sphincter_Revelation
4

People love to make that association of conflicting opinion = negative criticism. My girlfriend even has a few pairs of high-wasted jeans that she loves and I personally think she looks better in other options, it doesn't upset me in the least. I certainly don't question her character for it either. It's the participation trophy society that's molded people into thinking that all opposing criticism is negative imo.

PeachyArt

Your ex girlfriend's friend is an idiot. Models aren't really supposed to be hot. They are supposed to look "interesting". Have you never met a fat or curvy gay person? That's honestly just a whole load of homophobia thinly veiled by some bullshit reasoning. Also, there are things called "sample" sizes that are used in runway shows etc. They are often the same size. Skinny people are generally built similarly. Fatter people can vary A LOT. It's just easier to use very skinny models.

Mom jeans were invented in the age where a flat ass was considered in vogue. In this new world of large muscular asses, I don’t know if it will find a place.

If you do have a modern/2019 ass and want to wear mom jeans, may I suggest one with a tapered front waistband and no back pockets. It will really focus everyone on your assets.

I don't think you actually understand high waisted jeans. They are much better at showing the sillhouette of a woman's figure due to the contrast between the wideness at the hips and narrowness at the waist.

This is definitely worse. When you wave at someone you have a lot of outs. You can turn it into a yawn, a stretch, a clothing fix. But that, running out directly to someone who is clearly there to greet a specific person... there's no out for that.

EDIT: there were around 9 seconds between the mom jeans being noticed around the corner and the rejected hug, assuming the hug rejectee was staring at the entrance. yall are adding way too much head cannon, she saw an old friend and didn't realize it wasn't really a group visit imho.

Not only that, she never even looked in the side girls direction. The entire time her whole face is looking at the stage. We can even see like 10 chairs on from the girls row, from that distance how on earth do you figure the hug is for you?

Bruh- I want to agree with you but she clearly wasn't looking at her. its not that hard to tell - Sure she can be excited and stuff, she may not even be able to tell it wasn't for her. To me she comes off as the type that tries to make things about her, whether its intentional or not i can't know.

One of my best friends in elementary school fell off a playset and burst a blood vessel in his brain. When he came back he came to my classroom (he was a grade up) and one of the teachers that was with him literally said "Hey Hoss, someone's here to say hi to you!". I screamed his name and got up, but there was this one dick bag that was jealous of me about everything it seemed. He ran up to this kid and hugged him for like 5 minutes while I just waited there for him to be done, they didn't even know each other.

Can you imagine being my friend though? He just gets out of brain surgery and wanted to say hi to me, then this fuckwad comes and lunges on him. He was disoriented so I only hugged him for a sec, but he managed to let out "I missed you!" so it was a happy ending at least. Still hate that other kid though.

And at all ages, not nearly enough people to call people out on this shit. All it takes is one person saying, “hey twat, this isn’t your moment.” Sure it’s embarrassing, but the person will hopefully feel embarrassment for it eventually. Also why should a room of people experience embarrassment on your behalf because no one wants to point out your error?

Clapping girl came from college in Florida to surprise her best friend (on stage) in California. Girl that got swerved misread the situation..lack of self awareness maybe. Other two girls who are best friends ‘had’ to hug each other first. Understandable, little mean girlish.

Video was clearly made for social media and other girl almost ruined their moment.

KenboJohnson
7

After watching a few times I get the feeling this encounter is not unique. Like this other girl is perhaps some kind of egomaniac who possibly regularly attempts to insert herself into situations to which she does not belong.

After the initial dodge, neither of the two girls even acknowledged her, nor did she appear again on camera.

I would think that if they were friends, the third girl would have come in to join the hugging/blubbering.

I don’t know. If that was me running in, and somebody else started coming in for the hug. I’d hug them, I’d do it real quick and tell them, “Hi, but I’m hugging blah blah.” And move on fast.

Maybe worst case, I’d turn around after the initial big hug, laugh and tell so-and-so to get over there to get a hug too.

...maybe she secretly hates so-and-so... so this was just another way to conveniently stick it to her.
