This is confirmed in the novelization:
She gazed morosely at the submerged X-wing. So that was where the door had come from—Skywalker had salvaged one of the wings.
Is the novel a must read? I am really into the books, but never read any movie-versions. I really liked TLJ, so on the fence about this one.
I’m only about a third of the way through it. I don’t know if I would say it is a must read, but of the movie novels it is probably the one that adds the most from the movie. It is actually called the expanded addition as it has a lot of the cut content from the movie included.
If you’re looking for more exciting door lore it seems to be the place to go.
I do know the novelization for force awakens includes a part of the force vision we weren't shown in the movie
IMO the novelization for Revenge of the Sith is really good and worth reading.
Wooooooooah....you liked TLJ....so I’m not alone after all!
But how can you tell from the pic
Wow, that really spells it out for you doesn't it?
Most novelizations of movies don’t really try. I remember reading the one for Peter Jackson’s King Kong and even young me thought it was crap.
That's pretty poorly written.
We don't have context, but I'm inclined to agree. It's a little dry.
Also was confirmed in the visual encyclopedia
Is there a comparison image or something? Nothing about that door says "Came off an X-Wing" to me.
You can see the red ridges on the right side of the door. Red Squadron X-wings are painted like that.
That's pretty sick. You should've put that next to the door in the main picture
Wow, that is... subtle.
Is it the proper scale, tho?
It’s also confirmed in the visual dictionary that came out right after the movie did.
I can only plainly see 4 marks on the door, Luke’s call sign was Red 5 which is why there are 5 marks in this picture. Is the door just dirty?
It's a detail that's mentioned in the novel.
They made a novel?
You can see the wing’s design a little better in this shot: https://i.imgur.com/kAEngSi.jpg
The hero we need.
This is the picture that this post needed to have.
It legitimately just looks like a smooth piece of metal that's had some wear and tear. (Even with the responses.)
His last deed with the force before shutting himself out from it was ripping a panel off his X-Wing and saying “this would make a nice door :)”
I'm guessing that was the last time he used a lightsaber.
Was that before or after the “Love me some space cow titty milk” line that was cut?
Or the "Yoda, you look nothing like you used to" line
Still seems out of character from the guy who could see the good in Darth Vader.
I'd love to know the story of the day Luke decided he needed a door.
Probably not dissimilar to the day I rode my bike to the store to buy a locking doorknob for my room when I was fourteen.
"I'm really tired of these nuns walking in on me while I'm jackin it." - Luke Skywalker
Will Force-jacking your dick lead to the dark-side? Or is that a wives'-tale? Like hairy palms or blindness.
I had the same thought. Luke has got to be pretty lonely. Eventually even pumping that green milk would probably start doing something for you.
I mean if he can force project himself anywhere in the galaxy, that's perfect if he has a voyerism thing.
How do you know that's part of his X-Wing?
I'm not disagreeing, I'm just not seeing the evidence.
I responded to another comment, but the fading paint on the right side of the door matches the X-wings.
Right, now I see it. Well spotted!
You can see it much better in this shot.
anything maybe hosted by not that?
He also he cotton in his ears because of those screaming bunnies on the island.
I guess it's also subtly mentioned in the novelization
Now i'm wondering if there's a panel missing in that submerged X-wing scene?
It's not obvious since it still has its shape with just that much missing.
When I saw the scene with the submerged X-wing, I was sure that there would later be another scene in which he force-lifts it out of the water to go flying off somewhere, thus establishing that he finally did master the whole "lifting the X-wing out of the water" trick from Empire.
But then I imagined another explanation: He never mastered the trick, and that was why he was stuck on that planet. He crash landed there, and then spent years fruitlessly struggling to lift the X-wing out with the Force, while the spectre of Yoda taunted him by whispering "do or not do is no try" in his ear. "YOU'VE BEEN TELLING ME THE SAME THING FOR 40 YEARS, YOU GREEN-BLOODED HOBGOBLIN!"
Then, when someone finally shows up: "Oh, yeah. I'm totally here on purpose. Like a hermit or whatever. Sure."
I was actually surprised Luke had his X-wing, it seems like, you know, he'd get another ship at some point in the last few decades. I mean, was he still Red 5?
Well, by Hoth he was already Rogue Leader, so probably not.
Oh god, you're right. I am shamed. But I stand by my point that he should have gotten a different ride by then.
We saw that X-Wings are still in use in the sequel era, doesn't have to be the same X-Wing
Takes a deep breath and adjusts glasses The Incom T-65 X-Wing was a reliable but already outdated fighter at the time that the Rebellion were using them. However it would've become one of the most famous vehicles in recent galactic history after being involved in the destruction of not just one, but both Death Stars (depending on how much the galaxy of the new canon actually knew about it). It's safe to say X-Wing production would've skyrocketed and various new models would be released. The ones used by the Resistance are Incom-FreiTek T-70 X-Wings... the X-Wing under water on Ahch-to looks like a T-70, most notably by the semi-circle engine intakes, making a whole circle when the s-foils are closed, as opposed to 4 separate round intakes. It's tough to tell, but the markings on the s-foils also look different from the classic trench run paint job. Ahch-to X-wing
Well, the nice thing about these ships is they basically last forever if you take care of them, so why not keep it.
After all these years Luke still can't land his x-wing
Wait, why would Luke want or need to do this? Ahch-To has plenty of trees, so those weird nuns who take care of the old temple surely could just make him another door. Seems like it would take more work to rip off a part of his X-Wing just so he can have a door.
I don't recall seeing any trees, and the novel specifically states that there aren't many (or any):
"Chewbacca sat by the fire, the dark shadow of the Millennium Falcon behind him. Building a fire had taken longer than he'd expected--the island had few trees, just stubborn shrubs kept stunted by the ceaseless wind."
Not to mention that it's symbolic to shutting himself off from everything else.
I don't recall seeing any trees
Yoda seemed to make a camp fire out of one pretty easily...
I only saw one tree.
And that was chopped down in order to make a thneed.
Probably because it’s sentimental to him?
He's not exactly going anywhere anytime soon, so he doesn't really need it anymore. And "a lot of work" is irrelevant, "size matters not" and all that.
And he's surrounded by water after growing up in the desert.
I wonder how he feels about sand.
Helping to reaffirm my theory that once he changed his mind to come help the rebels he didn't have any means to get there (X-Wing was wrecked beyond repair) and thus he HAD to hologram his way there :P
An ex x-wing then?
More of an ex x-wing wing
That's a very nice metaphor for how they trashed and retconned original canon to suit the new movies
Its from the S foil, someone answered this on What model of crashed ship is on Ahch-To?
I just got through watching the digital version of The Last Jedi on Amazon Fire TV. In the scene where Luke is getting milk, didn't he take a squirt of Milk directly from the teet? I coulda swore that was in the theater version, but seems to be missing from my home copy.
I don't remember seeing that, he took a drink after milking it though.
He doesnt. He just drinks the milk from a bottle i think.
Where are people getting these screenshots? Is there a HQ torrent out now?
Ah, I see you noticed this amazing cameo in The Last Jedi !
Weird that he was able to build a cozy little stone yurt from natural materials found in the area but, then went all Castaway when it came to the door.
-Looking at door- doesn't look like anything to me
Maybe show a pic of the actual panel on the x wing so we can compare?
considering you need to have read the novel to have spotted this, is this really a movie detail?
Why did they shit all over Luke in this movie????wtf
Someone is making use of that free karma suggestions I posted a month ago!
