I’m from a hot place, so I’m not an authority on this, but a shirt without sleeves is probably not the optimal skiing setup.
It’s not - something I only break out for last runs of the year 🙈
Any run can become your last one of the year if you keep falling like that!
If you’re not falling, you’re not learning!
That’s what my parents told me when they were teaching me to ride a bike.
Took me too long to learn.
Yeah i kept falling and thought i was doing right, didnt understand the hype
You're supposed to ride the bike inside a startup accelerator for that to work.
If you’re not falling, you’re not learning!
My dad's rule to me when mountain climbing ....... he was pissed I returned back home that evening.
I used to work as a freestyle ski instructor back in my 20's, and I was always telling my students the exact same thing. If you're falling a lot, it just means you're pushing your limits.
Rubbing is racing.
Let me out of the car, cole!
"Let me out of the cah"
If you ain’t fallin’, you ain’t ballin’
Dude, I learned my ass the whole way down snowshoe for a weekend. That much learning kinda hurt.
Seems nobody here knows what spring skiing is!
That's what my drinking buddies in college used to tell me.
First time I ever went skiing was this new year's time. I was falling constantly, and never got hurt, until a little girl fell in front of me. Then I fell on purpose in order to stop in time, and broke my leg, badly. None of my friends believed it was broken till they heard I was getting surgery to realign the bones and get hardware installed to fix it.
Silver lining you may never need to worry about exfoliating that part of your body ever again. Dat one crazy abrasion ngl.
Worst I’ve ever had in 23 years of skiing.
Post a progress pic when it heals I am genuinely curious what something like this looks like when it scars. Wild. GL on the mend!
It's been 2 hours?! where we up to?.
The irony of this is it was only like my 2nd or 3rd fall of the season 🙈 Just happened to be a BAD one.
The reality is everyone falls, catches edges, etc. Just watch the Olympics - they fall constantly!
The tank screams confident skier
So youre saying im just like an olympian? Time to move on from the bunny slopes and go straight to them Black Diamond slopes.
Falling is great on snow because it's either slick or deep so you can't really hurt yourself without either falling off something tall or hitting a tree.
Although if you mess up jumps or cliff drops you can really rattle your shit.
But those Ice patches
I've never had a bad time with ice patches because usually you'll be going fast enough to just bounce and slide
Lol have you never skied on the east coast?
Why would anyone ski on the east coast? You guys think hills are mountains.
The appalachians are mountains damn it!
Keep telling yourself that east coast friend 😁
You don’t like skiing on seemingly nature defying hard packed ice slush?
Lost a friend do a snowboarding accident in Minnesota.
Here you are again! STAY AWAY FROM ME
Where I'm from we say that you should always skip the first and last run. Because that's when you hurt yourself.
Yup - when you’re not yet in the zone, and then where you’re tired and reckless. 😂
It's also snow quality. Perfectly groomed snow that's still a little frozen from the night, and slushy & moguly snow can both be pretty dangerous, in my experience, compared to mid day snow
Is this a rhetorical question, or are you actually questioning this?
Yeah. You are. It doesn't make any sense if you think about it literally. It's more meant as something to ponder over, and have it result in being careful.
It’s such a blast!
Try it shirtless sometime, it's even better.
You sure do say 'last run' often for a skier. We tend to avoid that term entirely, as it's been proven beyong question to be the direct cause of multiple accidents.
Yep I always reach the bottom of the slope, gauge how I'm feeling, and then declare I'm done for the day lol
Huh, I’ve never heard that superstition!
Oh yeah, that's why you always say "come on, we can do another!" But then instead go to the bar for that aprés special
Love it - like the Macbeth of the skiing world! 😂
We always call the second to last run of the day then just never go back up
We like to take a beer and pizza break at around 4:30. After that, we're either too full, too drunk, or the lifts are closed.
Gonna b painful with showers for a bit but seems lik ur taking it lik a champ!
Well in April i went skiing in a simple shorts. Pretty much the best time on the ski tracks.
Ha! This an annual spring skiing tradition. The slushy snow / ice crystal combo feels like cold asphalt when you fall. Basically just road rash for mountain people
What is the temp up there?
Last runs? Come to squaw for the 4th!
I’m actually hoping to!
Didn’t you hear? Winter is coming.
So first run of the day or last run of the year?
Or is it both and you only planned on doing 1 run the whole day. I'm confused
Last runs - plural. As in, my last couple of days. This was the first run of my last few ski trips of the season.
I only get out once a year for a couple days. Maybe next year I'll try to make a couple trips!
I fell in a slush puddle and got a face full of mud on my last run of the year where I’m at. I’d rather take the battle scars you got!
Trust me, you’re lucky with mud 😞
I would be careful skiing like that, if you fall t is going to leave one hell of a mark
...Sorta like this giant mark on my back?
In motorcycle terms: ATGATT aka All the Gear All the Time. Every time I ride I wear all of it. Only takes one fall to ruin your day.
Only takes one fall to ruin your day.
Only takes one fall to ruin your day.
Yikes. Sounds like a slope on the east coast of the US.
In Barrie? I always found that name a misnomer. Should have been ice valley.
Not Barrie sadly, my snow valley was a little mountain resort in Cali. It wasn’t much, but I miss it. I’m positive the snow is better elsewhere though.
Spring skiing like that is common
Yeah we regularly wear t shirts and shorts while spring skiing. And lots of sun screen...
And then there's always that one group of dudes all skins .
As a member of a hella snowy and cold place: When it comes spring time and the snow starts to melt, we once again get to see the sun. The sheer difference in temperature will have everyone out and about in shorts and a t-shirt. As long as it isn’t windy and there are no clouds, a 10°-20°F and sunny day might as well be a 50°-60° day. After spending time in the -40° range, it just feels good to not bundle as hard. It can get really sweaty snowboarding and skiing. I usually just wear one layer and my coat and usually end up taking my coat off after not too long.
As a Canadian who spent winter in -35+ weather I can confirm this.
You’ve obviously never been spring skiing. People go in bathing suits. It’s gets pretty warm out while there’s still good snow on the trails.
Laying down on the snow will help with the pain.
It is not, especially not late in the season when it is relatively warm and alternate between freezing at night and melting during the day. The snow recrystalize and turn into clusters of ice lumps, falling on it is like falling on soft sandpaper or gravel and will leave nasty scratches like the ones in the pic if you fall on it with bare skin.
With good fluffy snow conditions, other than the cold, it would be fine. But with late-season conditions, the snow is heavily packed, and some areas may have thawed and refrozen into scratchy ice-concrete, which is not fun to fall on.
You should put some ice on that.... I’ll see myself out.
no come back
you haven't paid your bill
How 'bout icing it
Baby come come back!!!!
Ice see what you did there...
Icy what you did there
I think your life must be terrible. To need such menial attention from strangers?? What is happening to you??
Nice, that had to feel good. I did something similar while skiing without gloves a while back, ended up grinding out all the skin and flesh on my right hand down to the actual bone. Now I’ve got a massive scar, hopefully yours won’t end up the same way
Dang! Mine is pretty surface level - doing my best to keep it moist and prevent scarring!
Well I wish the best to you, skiing accidents suck!
No pain no gain 😂
If you’re afraid of scarring don’t be, just make sure it doesn’t get infected and you’ll be fine
Oh man did it ever sting. The only way I could describe it would be touching your hand to the pavement while you’re driving on the freeway. Like the worst gravel burn with salt rubbed in. I was bleeding everywhere and laughing hysterically. There were some concerned onlookers who thought I had gone crazy because of shock, but I was actually thinking the hand was nothing compared to what was gonna happen to me when my mom found out. She was pissed, and rightfully so. If I’d been wearing the gloves my 60mph crash would’ve just ended in a couple bruises. I was also still an idiot for bombing that hill, but oh well.
I’m sorry about your knees, those are some of the all time worst to grind on the pavement. There’s something about it that just makes it 10 times worse. I’m glad they’re a little better now though. Your pinky toe story makes me absolutely cringe, holy cow that would hurt 😆
The human body is truly crazy. I only experienced shock a single time, and it was when i dropped and smashed a beer bottle on my ring(?) toe almost 10 years ago. I went white as fucking cheese, and i knew i had to just take deep breaths and shit. I don't think I've felt that physically ill in my life. Hahaha yeah the pinky one stung.. That's really a top 3 gonna stick with me for life. Man thinking about it I've always molested myself in awfully stupid ways, lmao. There's more than i can really tell about.
I ride aswell but Ive had my fair share of falls aswell.. I rode motocross a couple years and then basically moped since 13. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ride with gloves and long clothes. I can only imagine how your hands felt.
Dang man that bites, shock is scary. I always hated the immediate cold sweat you get. I can definitely relate to the hurting yourself in stupid ways though. Even before the accident i was scarred all over. Too many times playing with knives and jumping off things. Also roller blading without socks on for 5 hours. That takes the second place spot for worst pain of all time I’ve ever had. Got matching scars on both my shins from that one. And we do these things to ourselves and still never stop to think: is this a good idea?
Smh how we aren’t dead yet sometimes
Oh yeah the cold sweats were terrible ha. Yeah as i said i got alot haha. Just this winter season i burned myself thrice on our oven, one of them looks like someone put out a cigarette on my hand lmao. Tried to cut something once and got awfully close to my main artery in the wrist. I've has an inch of a clam stuck to my foot while i had to walk 2km home. Kids be kids lol. I'm an early 90s kid but boy, my first 12 or so years were mostly spent outside fucking around. I have a beard so i can't even take a proof picture, but i nearly slit my throat when i was 10 with a baking pan. Really just silly school stuff.. Me and my mate were rummaging around and i found a brand new baking pan, thought my mom would love it.. I dumped the packaging, and on the way home we saw a really awful girl from our class.. We ran, i tripped over a rock, and i got a 6cm tall scar on my throat on the right side. Luckily my beard is all over that shit now and it's invisible lol. I've been sewn up a few times, but eh its part of being a kid. I really appreciate the time i had and i wouldn't trade it for the Facebook/social media garbage that was to come for a bit.
This has probably been the most wholesome thing I've had on Reddit for over 3 years, thanks man! Really enjoyed sharing our stories of getting hurt, ha. Cheers from Denmark, btw!
down to the actual bone
down to the actual bone
I've done this to my face, that sucked. Decided it would be fun to jump a snowmobile, mid jump I accidentally went superman off the back then skid face first into the sharp too surface. That stung so bad, no scaring at least!
Dang dude, I’m glad it didn’t scar, bet it was gnarly though
Oh the first half of the jump was awesome! Second half not so much. Now that I think about though I owe my brother a snowmobile.
Haha well I guess it balanced out then. Except for the snowmobile. That’s the most painful part
Can I see a pic? I am curious now.
Lake Tahoe is one of the most famous ski regions in the whole world. Definitely not a fail skiing there, despite spring Sierra Cement.
And the tank top - man, live a little! Have some fun. I had a great day, even despite this.
Tahoe is amazing. Just had the pleasure of riding a few resorts out there end of March. The views from Heavenly were amazing. Enjoy the rest of your riding/skiing.
Heavenly is gonna be open until the end of May 🙌🏼
I think Squaw is open until the second week of July or something.
Edit: the last day of skiing operations will be July 7. Between memorial day and that date, they will only be open on holidays.
I know. Trying to convince work I need to go back to Reno 😂
I grew up in Tahoe by the Y. My first job was working at Heavenly. I remember riding everyday that season as well as riding during fireworks on 4th of July.
I prefer Squaw or Sierra though. 😁
My brother lives in Colorado so Epic Pass only makes sense! Plus I have a place off 267, 10 mins from Northstar, so it definitely makes the most sense for me.
Definitely overdue for a Squaw day though! Been a few seasons since I last went.
Lol I was stationed in Colorado springs when I left Cali. The Epic pass with a military ID is like $99 so it was a nice little savings. Tell him to make friends with a soldier or airman!
EDIT: my bad it's $129 now.
You are KIDDING ME. That’s a 90% discount 😭
There's literally no better deal other than actually working at one of the resorts.
Also I think the one with copper, Vail, and Breckenridge only is like $39 for the season. Or something like that.
EDIT: my bad it's $129 now
I was just there this past Saturday! The snow still wasn't that bad, right?!
I haven’t been to Heavenly since December. This was Northstar, where conditions were great considering the heat!
Haha very fair. I’ve been spring skiing in minimal layers for over 20 years, and this is the first gnarly rash I’ve ever gotten.
If you’re not falling, you’re not learning! 😂
These people aren't skiers Shandelion, their heads would explode if they knew about gaper day at a shit ski hill like Whistler. Looked like a gorgeous day, nice shredding!
It was killer! 🤙🏼
I was going to say - I've boarded in a tshirt at Tahoe many times because it gets so damn warm on some days.
On the final run of the season at my local hill everyone gets naked and drinks the whole way down. Seen plenty of people get cheese grated on ice.
Yep, I was definitely not the only one scraped up this weekend 😂
Seems like somebody who doesn't know how rough packed snow can be
Sierra Cement is no joke! I'm like 75% sure I fractured my tailbone when I fell on my ass boarding last time I was there. Never had it checked out but it hurt like hell for a month or two. I love Tahoe, though.
I was up there yesterday- it is just gorgeous still. This rain will do a number on it.
Some people don't like fun >:( yo fun runs are sick lol. Ski jump into a pool of freezing water!
Just went skiing in a T-shirt at Squaw Saturday!
It was so good!
Thank God there's so many places to drink on the slopes, take 3 shots and you'll be cured
I survived the rest of the day on ibuprofen and a Bloody Mary! 😂
About Tahoe? That’s not disputable. Squaw Valley was home to the Olympics and Tahoe is a popular contender for the 2026 Games as well. International elite regularly ski Tahoe.
How you gonna look cute while wearing all that equipment, brother? /s
Easy. Add a fursuit over the top.
I read that in Hulk Hogan's voice, but added a "brother" to the end of it.
Found the gorby
For fucking real, totally reads like a gaper post.
Spring snow is basically ice crystals of varying slushiness depending on the temperature.
Falling on snow at high speeds hurts bad.
Well even at really high speeds, good powder won't do anything. This is just shitty melty snow
The moisture on the rash is kinda making me sick. Not sure why.
Same, man 😞
Hey, shows your body is doing its job.
You should pour hydrogen peroxide all over it and upload the process
Dat lymphatic fluid tho
UGH!! Why did I click on that?!?
I switched to bikini + jacket combo for the rest of the day 😂
Did you do a skim pond at the end of the day?
There was one at Northstar but I didn’t know until we were off the mountain 😭
Oh snap, I was just at Northstar today! Quite slushy, but got a few decent runs in. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
bikini + jacket + bandage + cold air + ...smile?
You are tougher than I am, at least in terms of the cold and owies.
Hahah after 23 years of skiing I definitely have a different threshold for pain and coldness. But it was actually warm - like 60 degrees!
A few years back I wiped out on a bike ride and left a fair amount of skin on the pavement - that was not fun. She's in for an unpleasant couple of weeks. Time to get some large sheets of Tegaderm.
Tegaderm is arriving today! Thanks Amazon!
Make sure it’s very clean before you put anything like Tagaderm over it! There’s a chance you could be sealing debris/bacteria in. Dealing with big wounds like this in the hospital we would use a sterile dressing setup to try and avoid infection.
Will do! Thanks you
My stomach just skipped a little.
Do you know what that liquid seeping out is called? I'm generally curious
haemoserous fluid. If it was clear and non bloody it’s simply serous fluid.
I did the same thing when I was young. Except a fair amount of the pavement stuck to my skin and the doctor had to scrape out all the little dirt and pebbles with a brush. Suuuuuper fun.
Looks like she spilled her snow-cone on her back.
My back essentially became a meat flavored snow cone 🤭
I just broke a couple ribs snowboarding. That is the kind of hurt that lasts weeks. This should be good in a few days.
Ooooh ribs are no joke. My skier dad broke some ribs his first attempt boarding 😞 I hope you’re feeling better!
I’ll be fine. I will say that it was two or three weeks ago and I still am really sore. Sneezes have become terrifying.
Yeah, every cough sends a shockwave through my body too 😂
my kind of people!!! love spring ski/snowboarding!!
It was still a gorgeous day! Skied till last chair!
Well when you ski without sleeves you’re asking for ice rash.
Oooo, I bet that stings!
Showers are my new nightmare 😭
Dress for the slide... not for the ride!
The More You Know 🌈
ITT; people who have never been spring skiing
It's a TIL for me! I honestly never considered that it could be a thing.
I did it once, it was the last day of ski operations at that particular mountain. IIRC it was maybe mid April. I only wore a sweatshirt (+ undershirt) and jeans, no winter coat or other layers which was novel to me at the time.
I remember being thankful I didn't own skis (or use my own if I had them) because most of the trails were melting away and there'd be random patches of dirt and rock where the snow melted away. It killed the skis but also could bring you to a grinding and sudden halt lol
At least you remembered to put on deodorant. That's a win.
Spring skiing baby! Nothing better!
Ah yes. The time of year where the ground is cold enough still to keep the snow but the air temps are too warm for a jacket. The snow is like sandpaper crushed ice and gives great incentive to not wipe while in a shirt. Lol
Ah man, she dropped a slushee on herself.
Looks like heavenly Comet lift, lovely run
Comstock at Northstar! You got Tahoe right though!
this is gnarly im glad u had fun
LOL that’s exactly what I was 🙈
the pain during the day wont be bad, but enjoy really annoying nights
First night I slept like a rock, wasn’t too bad. Last night was a bit rougher. Luckily it’s only one side so not too bad for sleeping!
last time i had that kind scratch i couldnt sleep at all and my bed was covered in the yellow stuff whatever its called in english, was a nightmare
Yeah, I definitely got pus all over my bed and shirt 😭🙈
Looks like someone sprinkled flaming hot cheetos dust on your back.
Ah the ole tank top down a snow filled mountain look
California spring skiing got me good!
You french fried when you should have pizzaed
You poor soul.
Is it the sort that heals completely without leaving any scar?
I’m only hoping 🙈 Taking good care of it, not letting it dry... hopefully I’ll escape with minimal scarring. And at least if it does scar I’ve got a sorta fun story around it 😜
As tempting as it will be, don’t pick the scabs. A warm wet cloth at night will relieve the itch in a few days! Enjoy the spring skiing, absolutely jealous
Put bio oil on it! I got ran over by a four wheeler and the tire skidded out on my back and ripped the skin off, deep. I applied bio oil after it healed everyday and now I have no scar!
I LOVE Bio Oil. Did you apply it once it had started to scab? I’m still pretty raw so I’m just putting Neosporin for now.
No, I was in hospital cause I broke my pelvis too and the nurses just washed it, disinfected and changed the bandages everyday for a week, and the scab would peel off with the bandage every time they did that and it hurt soo bad. After the last scab was pulled off it stopped bleeding and was a giant red mark, that's when I started the bio oil. When I would tan it would stay whiter than the rest of my skin. Kept using the oil and it went away! Just bandage it up and let it heal first. The scab will eventually come off.
Man, I had road rash like that when I got doored by an oblivious driver while riding my bike. I'm reliving the pain and awkwardness of having to solo-reapply bandages. Heal up OP and keep shreddin
And why are you only wearing a tank top?
Because it’s 60 degrees and California!
TIL there's skiing in California
Wait, really? You’ve never heard of Lake Tahoe? The Olympics at Squaw Valley? Mammoth?
No, never! Just did a quick Google search, looks like really nice places. I'm from Canada and I've never been below the 46th parallel, didn't think there would be enough snow for skiing in a state known (at least for me) for droughts and its perpetually blue sky. But I mean, there's no reason that couldn't be possible, you've got mountains as well... I don't know, I guess I never really thought about it.
Come visit us! Great skiing and great beaches, all within a few hours!
It gets hot on the slopes especially if you have to take off/put on gear and stuff like that. Additionally it may be snowy but it gets really hot if it’s a bright sunny day especially since the white snow reflects off the heat.
Oh gosh how are you even smilling with that wound?
Gotta laugh to keep from crying? 😭
The reason I never go skiing without at least a sweater.
That and I get cold way to quick.
And I haven't done it in years lol
It was hot as heck! About 60 degrees!
You are as well!
Yeah I was confused for a minute too
Gnar gnar rash. You should stick a tiny little band aid in the center of it as a joke, maybe one of those little round ones that's just a dot?
Honestly the thought of sticking and adhesive bandaid to my raw back just made me clench my butthole 😭
Are those droplets from the snow or from your skin?
It’s pus 🤢
It's not pus. It's transudate, or serum. The part of your blood that isn't made up of red blood cells. It's totally normal for an injury like this.
Seriously? Shit dude. I bet that hurts like a buttcheek on a stick
It’s actually okay (3-5ish on the pain scale). Only thing that super sucks is showering.
That shower is gonna stiiiiinnnnngggg
I think all of Lake Tahoe heard my cursing that night 😩
Your makeup’s on point tho
Hah! Thanks! Just filled in my eyebrows and threw on some mascara!
That looks like it burns
My back is v spicy.
Put some ice on it so it doesn't swell up
My mom did something similar way back in the early 90s. She had one of those fat wheel Yamaha dirtbikes, and hit a sorta-deep puddle going too fast. Hydroplaned, lost control, hit the ground, then and skidded across about 30 feet of dirt on her shoulder. Amazingly, despite how gnarly the hospital picture was, there was no serious damage beyond some scarring after it healed. Speaks to the wonders of safety gear, even near-30 years ago.
She's going for a second run. She good
I kept at it until last chair!!
That is gonna suck once it scabs.
Any movement of your shoulder is gonna crack it open over and over again.
Yep :( trying to keep it as moist as possible!
My grandpa always had a rule:
Don’t say that it’s going to be a great first run, and don’t tell anyone that, “this is your last run.”
He was a navy pilot that flew jets off of carriers, and I know there’s some mild superstition amongst those men, but the few times I haven’t followed this rule of thumb, it’s been strangely consistently “bad luck.”
Good luck with your recovery. I fell while mountain biking a couple years ago around your area and your damage looks identical to mine lol. Tahoe is amazing I’m glad I only live an hour away.
Th ski patrol dude who bandaged me said it looked like I mountain biking injury!
Such a great attitude keep going girl.
I did and I will!
Hold my beer moment.
My tank actually says “Wish you were beer” 😂
I was speed tracking on an icey trail on the east coast and dragged my face on the snow after falling going ~65mph, I feel your pain! I was lucky to only come out with a black eye and cut up face as opposed to a broken jaw
OOPH! Yes, same - grateful that it’s just surface damage!
I used to snowboard twice a week in Utah (perks of having a buddy that worked a resort). On sunny days, it's really surprising how hot you get even after only a run or two. I've gone in my boarding pants and short sleeves many many times.
Only wiped out like this once, trying to learn the tricking side of things, and got a nice snow rash on one side of my forearm. Felt like falling on cold asphalt.
I recently just did the same on the first good day spring skiing. Walked away looking the same, but with a torn shoulder, again. Looking forward to next season though! ⛷️
Damn, definitely lucky it’s just surface!
Put some more ice on it?
Respect. Shit happens when you leave the couch to have some fun.
Right? Still skied the full day and had a great weekend!
You're so beautiful x_x
That looks hurty
Holy shit you look a lot like me, don't have a missing sibling do ya? 😯
No, but hello, potential lost twin! ;)
That made my butt pucker and gave me chills
I mean, sucks for you but skiing in a tank top is kinda asking for it...🤭
Ouch. She’s a trooper though.
I tried! Still had an awesome day, skied till last chair, and I’ll be back up next weekend (just with more clothes).
Good to see you on the way back up! You must have ovaries of steel.
I like to think so! 😂 Honestly very little would keep me from skiing!
Yay for snow burn!!! Get those last tracks of the year
Good luck trying to sleep. I had a nasty burn from skateboarding and I remember it getting stuck to my sheets after I wake up.
Then i put bandages on it. Helped a little but I had to change them every night and basically pull a layer of dead skin off with the bandage. No fun.
Spring skiing can get dangerous — can confirm
Your wound weeps while your face smiles
Is that at heavenly? Haha
I fell down a hill on rollerblades once and skidded pretty far down the road on my arms. I had to go to the hospital for sick road rash and spent weeks with skinned arms. Not fun.
Ouch! Hope you heal quickly. I went snowboarding a little over a year ago for the second time. Went to stop, slipped on a patch of ice and my board slipped out from under me. Didn’t close my fists and landed mostly on my right hand. Managed to break my wrist & my hand. It was my first day back on the slopes. But I’ll go again when I can! Skiing/boarding is too fun to quit just because of injury. Next time I’ll wear wrist guards for sure though lol.
Finally somewhere I recognize! I didn't realize there was still some coverage at Northstar. Might have to drive up from the Bay this weekend if the rain down here throws some snow up there!
I think the age old saying is 'dress for the slide, not for the ride'. Goes with anything involving you moving at greater speeds than casual running!
"Mountain Rules Baby!" - Dennis Reynolds
Haha, yeah just be careful next time
Some days you shred the gnar, other days, the gnar shreds you.
Hell yeah girl. Get it! :) Proud of you.
That cheeky smile though!
Gotta love that spring skiing!
That burning feeling of being alive. +1
now thats a badass graze right there looks like the red rash from dream catcher
You ok now?
I’m two days and two showers out and I’m hanging in there. My boyfriend is playing nurse and I’m mostly fine. I’m at a 3-6 out of 10 on the pain scale so definitely manageable.
Showers just suck.
please wear gear next time! But as someone that used to do winter sports i absolutely understand that ice burns are on a whole other level of painful bullshit
I wear gear year round - don’t regret my decision to wild out a little (well... mostly don’t regret 😜)
Damn. Secret of the ooze going on with that
Ahh, a case of freezer burn in the wild.
dropping in to let you know that you have an excellent smile :-)
Hah, thanks! Gotta smile through the pain 😂
Jw, is that Northstar, I was there for spring break and I feel like I know exactly where you fell lol.
It is! Fell just below Rendezvous chair. This pic is on Comstock.
Oh fasho, I didn’t even touch rendezvous lol, fell plenty on the backside tho
Backside tore up the rest of my crew later in the day 😂
Hope y’all feel better and shred powder bowl for me lol
I went to Colorado last week and went skiing for 5 days... I’m from Phoenix Arizona... seeing you wearing that in snow makes me cringe
It was hot and sunny! California skiing, man! CO just had a bomb cyclone so it’s probably not spring conditions yet.
I never even would if though of California skiing!
Come check us out! Tahoe has some of the best mountains in the country!
Spring skiing is definitely a thing in colorado too, it just happened to dump last week.
Just rub some dirt on it. You'll be fine
Is this Mayrhofen?
Northstar in Lake Tahoe.
Am i the only one impressed with the quality of this photo? Which phone is it?! I have to know! I'm guessing pixel 3?
It’s an iPhone 8.
Damn, didn't notice the trypophobia until i zoomed in. My eyes
Whoa snow is serious.
Have fun sleeping tonight!
Because it’s only half my back it’s actually not too bad. Just need to stay on my left side.
You took it like a champ
I tried! Took an hour-ish off and then hit it until closing!
You and I have very different ideas of funny 🤨
Wtf I've always been scared of the cheese grater effect of sliding on concrete but WTF! snow can do that too...
Any surface can become a cheese grater if you’re going fast enough 😂
Well, at least there's a very good chance you are enjoying your spring ski in a legalized state.
I would recommend a 1000 mg coca cola gummy before that shower/bed tonight.
as someone that comes from downhill longboarding. i had no idea snow could give you road rash too. i always thought snow would be softer to crash on
The ski patrol dude who patched me up said it looks more like a mountain biking injury than anything he’d seen on the snow 😂
Snow itself is normally fine. Ice, on the other hand...
I thought that was Taki powder
Bet that shower is gonna sting
Nvm the pic reminded me of a ski park I've been to a few times. It wasn't though
It’s Northstar in Lake Tahoe.
i'd just be like "welp, can only get better from here!"
and then break my fucking leg
all the comments saying "hurr durr wear more" shut up, aint nothing wrong with a vest shorts combo on a bluebird day
Hardly a flesh wound
Someone is not going to sleep in a bed for a while
I did that too on an up-down race in the spring. Wore a tank top and fell as I was coming across the finish line, out of control, wrecked my skin and it hurt but it was worth it.
Get some ice on it.
Well that's because you're skiing, not running. The head gear is different.
Have an issue with the tanktop too, but different than the others. Please wear sunscreen. Winter Sun can be more harmful than summer sun, and the reflection from the snow even amplifies it. So sunburns and skin cancer can occur way more likely.
Peter will tell you that too: https://youtu.be/nhfCdJ4gbyE?t=12
Oh yeah, I was all screened up! The one safety precaution I did take 😂
Good Woman *pat head*
Little Red Sliding Hood 😬
That shower tonight is gonna feel bad.
Literally made me scream.
Yikes. Happy healing!
Gotta stay in the trees that way you don't slide as far!
That is going to hurt like a motherfucker when you take a hot shower
I think all of Lake Tahoe heard my cussing when I showered lol
Showering will be fun the next couple days. Looks like quite some pain coming your way, and then the itching.
I’m two days out from this and I’m still feeling okay. Mostly only hurts when I’m changing the bandages and showering.
Looks like Gold Coast!
A saying for motorcycles, never thought it'd be needed for skiing, but; 'dress for the slide, not the ride'
Ouch. I've never felt better snowboarding in full gear instead, makes for much more datrng runs without those unfortunate results...
Please remember to use pizza French fries moving forward
Oh that’s gonna hurt later.
Protective clothing is overrated
I once broke my wrist on the first run. Got off the lift, connected my other foot to my board, stood up and made it about 5 feet before hitting some ice, falling, and smacking my wrist on said ice.
OOPH! That’s brutal!
That’s what happens when you ski at Flat-star
Ya know what’s gonna hurt? Your next shower.
They’ve been bitches for sure. Lot’s of screaming 😭
There’s just... no good way to deal with that. Grit the teeth and shower fast I guess.
I’ve yet to figure out how I’m going to wash my hair... 😆
Shit that looked icey
Does this happen from falling in the snow? (Pardon my ignorance, never been in snow)
Only if you’re barely clothed like me 😂
Huh, I'd have never thought snow could do that!
I wonder what a sunburn on that would be like?
Don’t you put that evil on me.
At least she got ice on it right away. That should ease some of the swelling.
On the bright side, you look like Amy Adams!
if only there was some way to protect yourself
Lol the only person to get road rash on snow
I did something similar but on a fixed gear bike and the cement going at around 15mph. That was years ago. Be ready for an awesome war scar.
eugh i can see lymph bead on your cuts
Nothing a couple IPA's can't help.
Zoom in if you dare.
All those drops of fluid...
Pus yo 🤢
Considering the road rash you’ve got a great smile still. Be careful!
Holy crap does that hurt as bad as it looks? Your face tells a different story
It felt okay in the moment. About two runs later it hurt so much I almost threw up on the lift. Then I took some ibuprofen, had a Bloody Mary and rallied!
This was two days ago, and I’m still hanging in. Sore for sure, but I’m okay. More gross than anything else.
Those are the worst the following day in the shower. Ouch!
Man that should be nsfw! Anyway HEAL QUICKLY!
1990's, friend, "tough guy", skiing in 20f in shorts and t-shirt to impress no one special (us). I tried to tell him it was a bad idea and even the best of the best fall and that's not going to be pleasant.
It's the only time I can remember ever having said "I told you so" to someone. In addition to the horrendous rash, he also had a bit of the frostbite because gloves are also for sissies.
Yikes! No frost bite here!
omg that looks really bad ... hope you're recovering ok!
wish I didn't have to work today, I'd be on the slopes too... This Friday though!!!!!
Saturday was amazing
This was Saturday - I’m working from home, hating life right now 😆
I was at Mt. Rose, you?
I bet that itches like crazy... I broke my back in January and scraped up my face in two small spots sort of like your back... sucked
No itching yet, just stinging 😩
I was at Northstar!
Wait, you got that from snow?
I thought snow was fluffy and soft...? That makes it look like it's hard like concrete...?
Especially in the spring, temps get hot during the day so snow melts, but drop at night so it freezes back over. As this was early morning, conditions were still pretty icy.
Mmm I can see the sticky yellow serum beads forming already.
Oh dont worry just blot them away before they crystallize lol. =0
Try icing it.
I’m no ski doctor but is wearing stringer tanks normal during this ski activity?
Only if you’re a California ski bum like me 😂
That’s gonna be an ebay worthy scab soon too. Lucky
This looks like a slope in the Sierra's that I'm an hour from
The next shower is going to suuuuuuuucccckkkkkkkkkk
It did 😭 So did the one after. Not looking forward to my next shower tonight
At least you got a cherry slushie out of the deal.
Man we should probably invent some kind of protective clothing you can wear, something light weight and breathable...
Hey OP. Maybe it’s just the picture but it looks to me like your helmet sits too high on your head. Just looking out for your cranial health 😎
That’s gonna leave a mark!
Wear a wind breaker for the last ski of the year instead.
Wow that looks like it hurts
snow can cut you apparently, the more you know 😂
Perhaps you should be wearing long sleeves if you are falling on your first run off the lift. I don’t ski (I ride), but I always do a warmup run before doing any significant rails or jumps, just to get my suspension tuned in. Give that a try.
My butthole puckered when I saw the pic. Ouch!
Your skin is leaking.
Just smile through the pain
You gotta! 🙌🏼😂
Oh fuck hurts just to watch and yet you're there smiling with a thumb up
Still had a great day and skied until 4:15!
How do you a rash on snow? Or did you got a tree?
You slide on it going very fast 😂
Thanks for the green-suited photographer tip!
HAH! No way! You and I chatted at Tost!
You were such a big hit with everyone! Definitely one of my top 5 eavesdropping moments.
Those two boys with the dad were THRILLED to see it.
That's some bad road rash from snow.
Lookslike Cayenne Pepper (or paprika) sprinkled on her body
I've had things like this many times. The worst part is showering. The thought of taking a shower with raw skin makes me shudder.
My guess is Heavenly.
