That’s actually really cool

Except having to explain to every guest what that is and why you cut into your hardwood to install a chintzy button looking device that’s going to get broken as soon as someone opens the door too hard.

The same will happen with a usual door stop, this at least looks decent

Except with most usual door stops you don't need to cut into your floor to place them.

The other ones cut into your walls.

You can fill walls easier than filling and blending in floors

Vigilias

Agreed, but doorstops are typically permanent.

timmyotc

Permanent for the wall. Drywall is hella cheap

This argument is petty as fuck.

*Baseboard, and often it's just small plate that's fastened to the baseboard. And a section of baseboard's far cheaper and easier to replace than hardwood flooring.

I know this magnet dealie looks cool, but it's an answer to a question nobody asked.

Maybe it's not too protect walls but you want your door to stop before something

hilarymeggin

Exactly... A piece of sheet rock, instead of your hardwood floors!

They can also attach to the door itself.

Button can be painted to match the floor if needed, and i would imagine that they went though a fair amount of stress testing to make sure their product doesn't break.

"hey everyone, these are the original hardwood floors we restored that were built in 1910. Also notice the cheap Chinese dropshipping shit we installed in 2019" said nobody ever.

No but in theory, a ceiling application for a frameless door could be cool. Curious about how this might be installed in gyp though.

How about a magnetic repellent on the wall?

voarex

Get some really strong ones so it flings the door at the person. Would be like the house is fighting back.

It'd be a good way to get people to not slam doors open.

'be careful the harder you open it the harder it hits ya'

I really don’t like drilling into the floor versus into the wall. Also, I feel like dirt and hair would be that things worst enemy.

ok reddit why does this suck

minnesaur

The sound of metal on metal

Gunk getting in the mechanism and eventually making it inoperable

People slamming the door open eventually banging it up enough that it breaks

EmeraldGlimmer

Because a hinge pin door stop is only $2, works just as well, is much easier to install, and doesn't require cutting into your floor.

haltingpoint

These things are fragile though and can cause other damage if the door gets slammed open.

There are so many other options, from decorative iron door stops, to spring stops that fasten into the baseboard, to wall shields/bumpers that stop the handle from damaging the wall. All these things are cheaper, more reliable, and easier than the magnet stopper show above.

haltingpoint

Don't disagree. Was just speaking from personal experience with the option you mentioned above.

decorative iron door stops

I'm a fan of these magnetic door stops because our house is 100 years old and not too level. Holds doors open, but keeps them from being TOO open.

We had a similar one in our office. Didn't last 24 hours.

Who will be the first to step on the pin barefoot when the pin gets stuck in the up position (probably a few days after installation).
